They may test fire a missile in the direction of Hawaii, but there's no way they would actually attack; even if Kim Jong Il is crazy enough to give the order, it's unlikely that it would be carried out. Anybody in his right mind would know that NK would cease to exist after such an attack.

from what I'm able to glean from the reports, the Uranium bomb detonated by the NKs is in the 8000 lb range..far too heavy for their aircraft or pop-gun missiles to carry... a suicide ship is about the only way for them to deliver it..

One nuke isn't going to end western civilisation. It'll have the overall effect of ending North Korea's civilisation forever, sure.

Just remember that King Jong Il is unpredictable in almost every way except that he craves attention for his regime. I think he gets antsy if the DPRK isn't creating headlines in the Western world. I also highly question their ability to attack Hawaii. South Korea? Japan? Maybe... but it would be the end of "North Korea."

Unfortunately, more realistically it would be the end of Korea period. Hypothetically speaking, if the shit truely hit the fan, Kim Jong Ill does have enough military might to create one of the largest international debacles since WWII. Short of pulling the pin on a few megatons, it won't be like Iraq where we can just go in and have them "defeated" inside of 72 hours. And that's not even considering Chinese involvement, which would be exceptionally likely. And given how much of an insane attention whore Kim is, I wouldn't put it past him to trigger some kind of "last hurrah" for his divine dynasty if it came to that. Beyond the loss of life, the economic damage would also be extreme given South Korea's contributions to the world economy.

I think we also need to start thinking about the aftermath of such a thing; the forcible reunification of the Korean Peninsula, with 20+ million NKs raised with this mindset, might be too much of a culture shock for them. South Korea's economy would implode.
