Just in case fans of this Arthur C Clarke book have not caught this, Radio 4 is broadcasting Rendezvous with Rama. The first episode was today (an hour) and it continues next sunday:

I gave up on it after a few minutes. It sounds like they're doing what Gentry Lee did with the Rama sequels, replacing Clarke's optimistic future and sense-of-wonder narrative with a story about a dystopian future filled with war and religious strife and all that tedious stuff. That's not what Rendezvous with Rama is about, and it's not what I want to hear.

Still, following the link did lead me to the discovery that the same BBC Radio service is airing Big Finish Doctor Who stories. I wish I'd known sooner, since I came in on the middle of a story and a season, but still, nice to get new Who this week in some form (since BBC America is delaying "The Almost People" for a week due to the assumption that nobody wants to watch TV on Memorial Day -- which seems like an obsolete notion in the age of DVRs).
