Rename the Forum to just "Star Trek"?

In that case, we'll first need to change the name of the "The Original Series" forum to "Star Trek", a move that is long overdue.

Then we can proceed to rename the "Star Trek XI" forum to "Star Trek", a move which should confuse no one at all.

Good thing we don't have a forum for the animated series, or we'd have to change that one to "Star Trek" as well...

Not to mention two different forums for ENT: one called "Enterprise", and another called "Star Trek: Enterprise".

The Mirror Universe version of "Star Trek: Enterprise" should have its own forum. Two forums are not enough to contain the bounty of ST:E.

How about just:

Childhood: Raped :techman:

WHAT dire Offence from trivial Causes springs,
What Controversies rise from Trekkie Things,
I sing—This Verse to GR—, Muse! is due;
This, evil Berman may vouchsafe to view:
Slight is the Subject, but not so our Pleas,
If They discard old Continuities.
What Motivates, please tell us O Great Bird
A Hollyw'd Hack t'assault a gentle Nerd?
And say what stranger Cause, what cruel Fate's trick,
Cou'd make a Fan reject a Mega-Flick?
And dwells such Rage in broadest Bottoms then?
And lodge such daring Souls in Pear-Shaped Fen?

Well done, sirrah.

I rename the forum... Bob....

Um....no.
What's wrong with Bob, Bob?
What About Bob?... it worked for a movie title...

The EW article has it as Star Trek: The Movie which sounds good to me... but I also vote for Star Trek 2009 as thread title.

More importantly, I don't care if they get their little feelings hurt about the new movie. I am tired of hearing the screeching, whining voices of those who think someone raped their childhood. Let's continue our fun and "leave the dead to bury their dead" as Jesus himself put it.

^ I've been on this board long enough to know that you HAVE to quote someone or they ignore you. Who better to quote? :guffaw:

Even though I know the name of the movie is just Star Trek, I refer to it as Trek XI anyway, to differentiate it from other Star Trek. However, I think we should start writing it out as Star Trek 011. Because Abrams and his cohorts seem to love putting zeroes in front of numbers. USS Kelvin's registry is proof of that.

Also, something else that bothers me is that the TOS DVD sets actually have Star Trek: The Original Series written on them. Guess what, the show's name was just Star Trek, that's the name that's supposed to printed on the box.

I propose we call the forum "The Star Trek Movie That Hasn't Come Out Yet." Then on May 8, 2009 we can change it to "The Star Trek Movie That Just Came Out." We can then continue alternating between those two forum names in perpetuity as new movies are announced and released.

And when it tanks, we can refer to it as "That Damn Movie That Shall Not Be Named".

I bet the very idea of the movie failing gives you a hardon, doesn't it ?

Even if it does fail, which I think is quite possible, you still win nothing.

Your ideas of what they should do or what they are doing, as you have demonstrated in various threads, are out of touch with reality and will continue to be so regardless of how Trek XI performs.

If the movie fails I think we can say bye bye to Paramount giving anything with the word 'Star Trek' in the title a go for quite some time...so I dont see how this film failing could ever be a good thing.

As for the forum title, Star Trek 2009 sounds good and its what pretty much everyone else in the world is calling it.

Even though it is the 11th Star Trek film to be produced its actually the first in a new series so its as much ST11 as Batman Begins and The Dark Knight are Batman 5 & 6 (and yes I know Bond gives us the other side of the argument but Im following Batman logic).

All in all though I think this particular fan base is one which always has and always will argue with itself and give stupid reasons for hating something with out seeing much of anything from it to base your thoughts on, to me even a couple of set/ship photos isnt enough it has to be either some more, really detailed photos or preferably the trailer (come on show me the rest of that bridge - I for one quite like it but wont say i really like it or not untill Ive been presented with the whole thing)

It's pretty much true that the long-time fans who are demanding a certain vision of "Star Trek" from the studio are doomed to disappointment. It was not so long ago that many trekkies on the Internet seemed convinced that if "Star Trek: Enterprise" failed the studio would see the supposed "error of their ways" and "start listening to the fans" (defined as "giving us what I want").

Didn't happen. Anyone who'd stepped back a bit could have seen that if anything followed the early cancellation of "Enterprise" it would be a reboot of some kind, and a number of people said as much then.

See, I looked at it entirely differently.

I looked at it as: If Enterprise fails, maybe they will stop giving us this same watered down shit, take a step back, rethink some things, and inject some new life and creativity into the franchise.

And that's exactly what happened. :techman:

For me, it has never been "tell the story I want them to tell." It has always been "tell me a good story."

While we have little indication that that's what we are going to get with Star Trek XI, I remain optimistic that we will.

You're the exception to every rule, Sam. ;)

I try to be.

You and I have been talking about this inevitable reboot for years. You have always been more excited about it than I am. I'm not against it, by any means. But I have more of a wait-and-see attitude.

I got burned by "Superman Returns," despite every indication that it was going to be great.

(And yes, I am aware that you quite enjoyed "Superman Returns." ;) )

I remain (as much as I hate the tired phrase) cautiously optimistic.

You are not the only one. I was very disappointed with Enterprise. I never even finished watching all the episodes. I thought Trek was dead after that. This is why I am excited about the new movie. Where there was death, now there is life... at least where Star Trek is concerned.

Well if THAT Star Trek forum is called "The Original Series," then THIS Star Trek forum should be called "The Reboot."

Next dilemma.
