Remove one episode from Trek canon.

Star Treks

Fleet Captain
A guy points a gun to your head and says, "I have the power to alter reality so that one episode of Star Trek - and I mean TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY, or ENT - will never have been made. It will puff out of existence, but all other episodes will remain intact. You must choose a single episode to disappear from history." Somehow, you sense the guy isn't completely insane and can indeed do what he threatens.

Which episode would you choose? The obvious choice is whichever one you think is the worst, but maybe that wouldn't be your choice; might a simply bad episode is less of a target than, say, an episode with terrible character assassination, or something that violates your sense of Trek's continuity, or maybe one that is simply utterly forgettable and contributes nothing to Trek, though not necessarily 'terrible'?

Personally I'd hate to get rid of ANY Trek - even the bad stuff - because it's all part of its history and the bad doesn't so much take away from Trek as highlight the good, in my opinion. What would you choose? I have to think about my answer.

The guy doesn't even need a gun. I'd get rid of "The Omega Glory" voluntarily. ;)

Completely obvious answer from me...

"There Are the Voyages..."

I'm completely happy to accept Kirk falling from an actual bridge, Jadiza Dax dying by the hand of Gul Dukat, Data being blown into a zillion pieces to save his friends, ignore planets full of Orish people, sex objects proclaiming "Brain and Brain... WHAT IS BRAIN!", even a clip-show while Riker fights for life...

...but I can never forgive the writers nailing the coffin lid down on my favourite Trek quite so securely, without anything relevant like the Romulan War or the Birth of Federation... all subjects finally being addressed not that many episodes prior.

BTW: Any chance you've seen that Inquisitor episode of Red Dwarf? :p

I will go with TATV as well. It's not a question of forgiving the people who wrote that.. It is what it is, and such a shame that the last televised episode of 18 years was so ill concieved. It doesn't sully in any way how I feel about all the great hours of televised Trek that came before, I just wish that ENT ended with Terra Prime instead.

Holding some kind of irrational hatred for people I have never met over a less than stellar episode of a show I loved seems kind of petty.

Ya, TATV for me as well. And I've never been that big a fan of Enterprise, but I can only imagine my reaction to it if I were.
On top of that it craps all over one of my fav TNG eps. Quite an achievement come to think of it.

If there was even the remote chance that he is capable of what he's claiming, I would hold the gun to his head until he had erased Assignment: Earth.

Any one of the following:

TOS:
Spock's Brain
Way to Eden

TAS:
BEM
MAGICKS-TU

TNG:
Shades of Gray
GEN

DS9:
None

VOY:
All episodes but "Timeless" (I like Geordi)

ENT:
All of them... OK, if only one of them? Definitely "These Are The Voyages"

TOS: Spocks Brain
Way to eden

TNG: the final episode of season 2
DS9: Profit and LAce
Voyager: Pick em.
Enterprise: These are the Voyages

TATV

And I don't even like Enterprise.

All bad episodes aside, what they (you know who) did in the episode was simply unforgivable.

It was nasty and spiteful, and in terms of procedure and formality, a low point in television history--perhaps only superseded by what the "Sliders" people did to Sabrina Lloyd.

This topic is pretty appalling to me. I would no more authorize the de-canonization of a TOS episode than I would choose one of my own children to be killed. Of course the easy answer of worst TOS episode would be 'Spock's Brain", but I would no more have it taken out of canon than I would choose the child who has downs syndrome to die. I am extremely grateful that no of those who participated in the thread have the power to act upon their wishes.

I already ignore "TATV". Nobody can stop me from doing so.

And I'm appaled by the fact that for you a dead thing obviously is as important as a living being. Sure, we all like Star Trek but comparing your feelings toward the episodes to feelings about your own children is kind of creepy IMHO. :wtf:
