The first episode. They just wanted to rid themselves of the Thals, and that was more because of their ancestral prejudice and fear. And yes they conquered Earth, but they didn't immediately wipe out the entire population. They even showed kindness to the Doctor and his companions by providing food and allowing them to take the anti radiation gloves.. drugs.
I don't think it was until 'The Evil of the Daleks' that they became the complete monsters that we know now. It's a pity that I'll never get to see more than a few short clips of it.
Imagine if the Daleks had only remained as belligerent antagonists and not as life-hating space Nazis. Do you think they could've even been redeemable if the story had been told that way? I wish there could've been a story where they acted as a force for good, but then I'm always fascinated by stories of villains becoming heroes.
