remastered..THUMBS DOWN

And we still have the original version and we're completely free to ignore the revisionist version for the glorified fanfic that it is.
And make screencaps for the purpose of making our own, right?
And that is fanfic of another sort. :D
One is created by people who have actually worked on Star Trek and is sanctioned and distributed by the company that owns the rights to produce and distribute Star Trek and the other is made by a bitter purist who thinks they know Trek better than the people who actually work on it and have done so for 20 years and will only ever be seen on an internet message board.

Gee, do you work on NEW VOYAGES or any of those webtrek shows that people talk so much about?

No. I don't. I wish I did, though. It looks like they're doing some good work, for a fan production.

One of those statements is misleading and/or poorly worded (if not totally wrong).

Can you guess which one it is?

My guess it that you don't like TOS-R.

There is nothing wrong or misleading about my statement. As far as the wording..why don't you tell me, since you seem to know how I think.

TOSR isn't being made by people who worked on the original show, just people who worked on it's spin-offs. Bob Justman has only visited the production on occasion, and I haven't heard of any other original staff involvement.

That changes the argument a bit, since the original staff isn't involved in it's "remastering." You can't use that argument in the same way you could defend Lucas's reworking of Star Wars.

I'm not defending Star Wars.. Who the hell is talking about that??
Most of the people who worked on the original TOS FX are dead and buried.
It doesn't change my argument. You are changing the argument by making it something else.

The Okudas have worked on Star Trek since Star Trek IV. They worked on all the spinoff shows. Dave Rossi worked on Voyager, Enterprise and DS9. Bob Justman was interviewed about TOS-R and fully supported it. And that's good enough for me

It's not like CBS pulled in people off the street to do TOS-R. The FX were supervised by a team who have certainly "done their time" on Star Trek.
That you don't like it doesn't make what I said wrong or misleading.

I think the people who made TOS-R are certainly qualified, as they have been doing Star Trek for 20 years. I'm not interested in why that's a problem for you. You don't like it and I do. Let's just leave it as that.
At least you know some reasons why I like it, assuming that it's important to anyone.

Well, I apparently know it better than the ones working on TOS-R. See, sometimes it can pay to be "bitter" as opposed to just being an incessant jerk.

I didn't attack the producers of TOS-R. I just offered up an opinion. Of course it's an opinion you have never been able to stomach so you just can't resist making insults. So it's only fair I reply in kind.

Whoa snap!!

I guess you sure told me.
Wow I sure will look at everything you have to say in a whole new light.

Thanks for clearing that one up for me, Skippy.

And let me know when Paramount hires you as a consultant on the next Star Trek project.

I read stuff around here all the time that I think is crap and I disagree with--sometimes I remark--but usually I let it go because it doesn't matter in the least. Or else I'd be posting 24/7.

Evidently you don't have that kind of restraint or discipline and/or respect for dissenting opinion. If I'd attacked you personally I'd understand your response, but you have no justification for insulting me for expressing my opinion on work that's out there in the public domain.

Until you're willing to change your sig line to something that doesn't automatically provoke fans of post 1979 Trek, I have every right, as does anyone else.

You do a disservice to YOUR sig line with that remark. Something smells like rotten cabbages.

The circus must be in town.

If you put by sig line in its intended context, you wouldn't make that statement.

I finally got to see BALANCE OF TERROR remastered, via XBOX360 download, and I have to say? I was not impressed. Oh, the colors were great..but the new FX? They were too cartoony. I think the original FX, to me, were better and, gasp, more realistic looking with a few exceptions..

So, other than the improved color I have to say the remastered FX were not worth the cost..which was actually cheap...but still!!!

Much agreed. And I HATED the obvious plating detail on the BoP.

Mind you BoT was one of the earlier efforts and the f/x improved markedly as they progressed. But with the exception of a few shots I think the new f/x (while looking fine in of themselves) still look somewhat "cartoony" and aesthetically jarring from the remaining live-action footage.

To quote Frank Herbert, "One does not beg the sun for mercy." The remastering is done, and it is a fact of Trekdom now. I did not want it, nor did I really like it, but it simply is.

True enough. I was for it too, at the start. I'm just making a point that I prefer the old version better.

Above are all the posts I made in this thread before someone decides to get personal. NO WHERE in there am I insulting anyone personally as opposed to simply making a light-hearted qualification of TOS-R. But there are some who believe that unless you suck at the tit of TPTB without question then there's something wrong with you.

Until you're willing to change your sig line to something that doesn't automatically provoke fans of post 1979 Trek, I have every right, as does anyone else.

Ah, and there it is.

Many times before I've said there have been individual elements or episodes I've liked in post '79 Trek, but that overall it doesn't work for me. I don't like it. And no where is it written that I have to like it--but watch out if you express such an opinion.

My sig line isn't a provocation unless you're insecure about your own tastes. And if you are that still isn't my problem.

Your own sig line speaks to me of criticizing those who automatically accept what's fed to them without question--a good sig line in my opinion. Odd that someone expressing such a viewpoint could be so uptight about me or anyone else not automatically accepting what TPTB offer up.

If I had the time and inclination to dredge up all your posts of bile and sarcasm every time someone brings up ENT or VOY (and NO I'm not bringing it up now, so I DONT want to hear it), it would prove how narrow and insulting you can be, but that would mean having to sift through and read your bullshit again.

When you started with TOS-R=gorified fanfic, that's when I chimed in.

Whatever. You are never going to change and that's pretty sad for you.

Now if anyone is going to keep going about this, it won't be me.

Enjoy your hatred.
Frankly I don't care about your opinion because we ALL know what it is.

Last word.

For someone who doesn't care about my opinion you seem to remark upon it often and without fail.

I have been more biting in the past and I apologize for none of it. This time around I dissented with civility and a touch of humour. And that still wasn't good enough. Seems I'm not the one who is bitter, but you're entitled to enjoy your nurtured resentment.

And my "hatred" feels good. Thanks.
