Remastered Tholian Web question

The shot I hate is when the Enterprise fires phasers at a Tholian ship and it rears back like a startled horse. A total facepalm moment.

Although I haven't seen the redone "Way To Eden", I'm guessing they changed the Tholian ship so it wouldn't be later recognized flying backwards as the SS Aurora?

It looks like an actual living, non-humanoid lifeform...as opposed to a stationary puppet standing in front of a 1960s era dance show background.
Hmmm . . . Tholian Bandstand? The Tholian Beat? Tholiwood à Go-Go?

They completely redesigned the Aurora. It's reminiscent of a Hippie Van now.

Actually it looks more like a cross between Matt Jefferies’ original shuttlecraft design and a submarine.

I didn't like the psychedelic look of the gaseous atmosphere inside the starship...very 60s.
That's exactly what I like about it.

Like this design better:

That looks like a crystal sculpture of some kind of bug. Feh.

I'm annoyed that they made the torso so humanoid, though. I wish they'd followed through on the bacteriophage-like shape of the (updated) design and eliminated the shoulders and arms.

meh. I don't mind the updated effects. I like Trek, A LOT. but it is still just a TV show. If you don't like the new effects, don't watch them. That's what I'm like with the star wars prequels

Oh, I completely disagree. That's about the best stuff TOS (original or redone) has ever come up with, besides the hero ship. It's 100% Matt Jeffries. It's 100% Space Hippie, 100% "2260s are the new 1960s". It's 100% Recognizable Treknology with the unobstructed nacelle pair and the hull undercut. Plus it perfectly fits the needs of the story...

It's certainly an improvement over the unconvincing original, in terms of being a space yacht a bunch of rebels could steal. And IMHO it's also the best improvement imaginable.

(To be fair, though, even this one is recycled: they used the same model, in coarser form, to portray the barely glimpsed guest starships of "Mudd's Women" and "Operation: Annihilate!". But the audience couldn't tell.)

They did. It mow looks more like a VW Bus with warp nacelles. (In a 1960ies 'retro hippiee' sort of way.) ;)

You know, it never occurred to me until now that the redesigned Aurora, with its portholes and rounded shape, was meant to be subliminally reminiscent of a 1960s-era multi-windowed VW Microbus. I guess a psychedelic paint job would have been a bit over-the-top.
