Single, not seeing anyone. Not because of lack of interest, rather lack of knowing what the hell to say or how to act  Seriously, I was so sure about a week ago that a girl was really into me and now I have no idea what she thinks of me.

I did however in my teens live in the basement. But so did my sis and later on my brother.

Well, Robert, now you know for next time. ;) I understand what you're saying about the unbalanced gender divide, but I reckon it would still be interesting to see if there are any differences between the male and female members, as unscientific as the results may be.

I suspect super geeky girls may be just as prone to being single as super geeky boys... you should do a spin-off poll and let's see how it looks...

Just 6 years ago I was firmly in the stereotype myself:
Geeky - check
Living with parents - check
Basement - if we'd have one I'd have been deep in there and loved it, yep :D
Single - check
And check to all the other stereotypes you can think of as as well, may as well be hung for a sheep as a lamb.

Except for my sex, I was exactly the demographic trek caters to, and a fine demographic it is, too. I'll take a trek geek over a mainstream airhead, any time. :luvlove:

 Oh, did I ever fulfill the stereotype before I was married. No dating, living in my parents' basement (my excuse is that I was attending a local university at the time, but still...), and pretty much a geek, except that I'm useless with computers. My husband is into all sorts of geekery as well, so we're a good couple that way, right down to me tolerating his trainspotting and him tolerating my sock yarn collection.

asexual but Im interested in finding some companionship with someone who share some common interests...maybe. I dont know, ive become so used to being by my own for so long...I dont think i could deal with any kind of relationship but this damn eye disease Ive been suffering through has made me feel different about some things...maybe.

^^ How's that going? I haven't seen an update in a while. You were going to have a tear duct procedure, weren't you?

I can't ever seem to make a poll that covers all the nuances.
Eh, I just voted "Single, not dating." :rommie:

There's no option for "Retired but has had relationships (of a sort) in the past and may be open to coming out of retirement under the right circumstances." Part of it is the being picky thing (or the Holdfast philosophy) and part of it is just the weary contentment that comes with age.

Your description of it was rather punchier than mine, though. Does brevity come with age too? :D
Heh. It's just my writing style-- I always try to capture that "to be or not to be" efficiency. That's why I mostly turn out very short stories. :D

Yeah, I guess I didn't put qualifiers on any of them, except for the last few, and they're only there so I could have an even 10 options. I only cared if someone is single, married, etc. and not necessarily what the circumstances around it are.

As far as single people go, I think it would be interesting to break them down into smaller groups:

Single, never been in a relationship
Single, in between relationships
Single, not interested in a relationship

or something like that.

For what it's worth, no one could possibly come up with all the possibilities for this poll (Single & Not Dating, Single & Dating a Monkey, Only Dates on Weekends and Holidays, In an Open Marriage or Relationship, etc.). "Other" would suffice.

Yeah, I normally have a "Pat Buchanan" option, but I thought I'd narrowed the options enough this time to not need it. Joke's on me.

Dated a few times in my life, hooked up for the most part, but I'll be single for the rest of my life.

Between "In a relationship" and "engaged". Together for 12 years, will live together as soon as job will allow, maybe we'll get married at some point in the future, but no formal engagement at the moment.

For the sake of the poll I'll check "in a relationship", as "engaged" seems to have a underling meaning "we had a date set for marriage", which we don't have.

You should always include an "Other" category so that you cover all your bases.
Nah. You'll just end up with more "other" that any other option, making the results useless. :p
