Reitman to direct "Ghostbusters 3"?

I'm definitely excited at the news... I just wish this was happening 10 years ago. The original actors are so old, fat and gray now they won't be able to do much without looking ridiculous, and yet I'm not all that interested in watching NEW actors running around chasing ghosts either.

I gotta agree with this. At least with recent returning franchises like 'Die Hard' and 'Indiana Jones', you've got actors that are still reasonably in shape for their roles. But these guys were never action stars... they're comedians, and even back in the day what little physicality these roles required seemed a just little ridiculous.

Right -- And John Candy is a great example of how large people cannot be funny.

The could very easily pull it off. I ignore that shitfest called Ghostbusters 2.

Yeah, but Candy was always a pretty big guy. With Ghostbusters, it'll be hard to watch the original actors and not think the whole time "Wow, they sure look bigger than they used to!"

Especially if you were to line Ramis, Akroyd, and Murray up together.

Yes, aging is a bitch

Hey, I'm not saying I'm not excited or still won't go see the movie.

I'm just saying I would have preferred it if they had made it 10 years earlier.

If it were ten years ago, however, the script going into production would have been Aykroyd's Hellbent script, which was absolutely, positively God-awful. It was just terrible, terrible enough that Reitman essentially said, "Fuck off, Dan, if you want to make this, go ahead, but I'll have no part of it."

I'll take some age, a script from some guys from The Office and Reitman's involvement over Hellbent any day of the week.

I don't see age as a problem at all for this. Its not like being a GB required physical prowess and great agility. Even though I didn't buy it when people complained about Ford & Willis it makes even less sense to moan about it with the GB cast.

Maybe so, but after films made by '80's greats like John Hughes, here in the '90's onward, I have no confidence in even the well-intentioned group to pull off a GOOD "ghostbusters" film in Hollywood's current environment. And even though the film continues to make the studio money (heck, I think the lack-luster sequel still makes them money) and has an enormous following of loyal fans, thus showing Dan and Ivan knew what the fuck they were doing ... I have no belief the studio won't interfer and fuck it up.

I also have zero confidence Murray will take this seriously enough to give a performance worth a damn.

And, on a personal note, I know many people love that "The Office" American version series, but there are people like me who hate that show, it's boringness, and crappy humor that never got me to laugh or even give a half smile, and having these people write the GB script, has me less than excited.

Did Dan's script for Hellbent ever find its way onto the net? I'd love to read it, see if it was as bad as has been said.

I'm not saying they're not funny anymore... But watching them run around with all that gear busting ghosts the way they used to will be funny for all the wrong reasons. At least in the game, the models were based on their younger selves, so you just had to get into the fact that their voices had changed a bit.

They could easily get into relative shape before shooting begins. But their age and body shapes do help with the whole changing of the guard aspect.

What's your source on this? The last I heard Weaver was out of the project and Moranis wasn't going to come out of retirement (and good riddance).

I quoted from the article that was linked at the top of the thread.
Ah, my bad.

If the movie is to be recast I would hope that the producers would avoid putting in any of "The frat-pack".
God almighty,Stiller,Ferell &co are about as funny as cancer IMO.
God, I can only hope they stay far away from this as possible.

You're confusing this with Ghostbusters: The Video Game (in which both Weaver and Moranis declined to participate).
Yeah, I knew they weren't in that production, but I thought i heard news about Weaver not wanting to do this new sequel as well. I seem to recall a quote her saying she wished them the best. Maybe it was all rumors and poppycock.

(and good riddance).
I'm going to fucking ban you.
Haven't we gone over this before?

Wait, what episode of DS9 was Emh in?
"Dr. Bashir, I Presume?" but what does that have to do with Ghostbusters? :p
