Reggie Perrin

Bob The Skutter

Complete Arse Cleft
In Memoriam
Anyone else seen the preview for the remake of The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin? I saw i on BBC HD earlier, and I can't say I was impressed. It looked fairly rubbish.
I guess I'll check it out when it airs, but I'm not expecting much.

I didn't get where I am today by watching shoddy remakes of classic television programs!

I think Martin Clunes could do well in the role, and it is co-written by David Nobbs, the writer of the original, so it could be worthwhile. But the preview doesn't look all that good to me.

I just had a look to see if I could find the trailer online, but no one seems to have uploaded it.

I never saw the original. I think Martin Clunes usually does a stand up job in his straight roles so, despite the fact that this is probably tv sacrelige, I'm going to give it a go.

I'll watch it on iPlayer later. I like Clunes, and I'm not adverse to a good remake. But the original is so wonderful that I'm not sure if it can be bettered or even equaled.

Well, we'll see.

Seemed to get a little funnier towards the end, but the heavy canned laughter annoyed me, dunno if it was actual audience reaction but it seemed very fake to me, and it made dislike it more because barely amusing stuff was getting uproarious laughter which just turned me off it.

Yeah, that did seem a little strange.

Well, it wasn't as bad as it could have been - Clunes did a fine job, I thought. Got across Reggie's world-weary manner quite nicely. The big letdown was the boss. The CJ of the original was vastly superior to the Chris of this version.

I liked the use of contemporary Reggie-irritants (computers, the wellness-person, mp3 players) as well.

So I'll keep watching. Clunes is charismatic enough to keep me interested.

Just when I thought they couldn't rape my childhood any harder. Deeper? Harder? Deeper?

What's the difference between harder and deeper?

Didn't watch it - I picked up The Goodies: At Last A Second Helping for £2 in a charity shop today and have been watching that.

Don't fancy the idea of Clunes as Reggie - and, much as I loathe Ricky Gervais as the most overrated man on TV, I think he'd be fucking perfect as a modern Reggie

I've watched a few minutes of a couple of episodes now. I find it to be excruciating. The laughter track if nothing else is unbearable.

A couple? Only the first one has aired so far, hasn't it?

I read an interview on BBC News with Martin Clunes and he said he's an audience... I can't believe that, it was so fake.

I'm confused. I'm sure I saw it twice... Maybe it was a repeat I saw bits of?

The laughter is awful. It seems so loud for one thing, and really bloody distracting. Years ago I went to see a taping of a short-lived tv show called "A Word in Your Era". It was pretty rubbish but we laughed because the warm up guy was very clever and anticipated some of what was to come, so in reality we were laughing at stuff the warm up guy had been saying rather than what was really being taped by the actors. Makes me think if something like this was happening here. It's bloody awful.

I think there was an episode Friday and a repeat Saturday.

The jokes falling flat was bad enough, but I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt, then the insane laughter just made me really dislike it. There were times when I was literally wondering what they were laughing at because as far as I could tell there was no joke there.
