Reeves-Stevens' Novels

These two are among the best writers of Srat Trek lit out there, and my qestion is this:

What is your favorite Reeves-Stevens novel in the ST universe?

Of them all, my vote goes to Prime Directive. Quintessential ST IMO.

Any Other votes?

I guess I'm in the minority, but I disagree with that. In my opinion they are decent, but nowhere near the best writers of Star Trek Lit.

But of their solo-efforts I like Prime Directive the best, too. Ironically (because the quality decreased drastically afterwards) I like The Ashes of Eden, the first of their collaborations with Shatner, a bit more, though.

Prime Directive and Federation for best, and Captain's Glory for worst (although I still enjoyed it. Just not as much as the other Shat books).

I'd love to see their take on the STXI universe. Their style is a perfect fit (as is Peter David's)

Federation was great.

I'm actually one of the few people who didn't like Prime Directive. The ending seemed really tacked-on, forced, and predictable to me.

But they make the Shat look great, and I liked the writing they did for ENT.

Another vote here for Prime Directive. With a bit of tweaking of the time period it takes place in, this would have made a great last movie for the original cast.

Well I thought Millennium was full of creativity but didn't actually make sense or accomplish anything at all, so that wasn't a favorite, but I adored Federation. That's all of theirs I've read so far.

I love The Millennium Trilogy and Federation. They really know how to expand the Trek universe, which can become quite small at times in print form.

I loved Prime Directive, from the first moment I read it, well that's no quite true, I heard the audio book first. And then read the book, as I loved the story that much. From the start, I though-this would of made a faboulous movie. It could of been a great TOS 1st film or closing peice of the film series. Still is my favorite book, and I think the authors are spot on with most of everything they write.

Really? I thought Millennium suffered from a hilariously overblown case of small universe syndrome. The mythic writings from past Bajorans turned out to actually be Picard! Not to mention that, in the alternate future, everyone important in the war on either side was a main character we knew from before.

Certainly, they have creatively distinct uses for those characters, but I don't see their work as expanding the universe at all. Certainly not to the extent of for instance Destiny, which introduced two new ships & crews, a new powerful alien race, and enormous possibilities for the future. That to me is expanding the Trek universe.

Not necessarily with new characters and ships... but with situations and ideas.

Their invasion and near destruction of everything I hold dear in the Alpha Quadrant was just awesome! They were as scary as the early Borg and far harder to stop!

Can people say what they liked about Prime Directive? I just didn't see it, and maybe need to reread it, but it left me cold.

Did you ever play the DS9: The Fallen video game? I played the hell out of it for a while, and I think it's getting near time to revisit it.
