Redoing the lost episodes?

Crewman47

I was just thinking there but if the lost episodes from the classic days are long gone and can never be replaced (I know that most of them exist on audio and animated) then could there be the possibility of doing to them what early TNG did with the proposed episodes for Star Treks second five year mission series?

If the PTB had thought about earlier then they could have remade the lost episodes to suit the last 4 or 5 Doctors.

What do you think, could it have worked?

This was sort of done with "Shada" which had Paul Mcgann's Doctor in it on audio/animated, although in Shada's case, the serial wasn't lost, just never completed (There was a VHS that contained the footage, and the footage was also used for the Five Doctors).

Cool thing they did was basically state that Borusa's kidnapping of the Doctor and Romana altered history and Shada did not happen with the Fourth Doctor and Romana, but with the Eigth Doctor and (then president) Romana, who decided to go finish their adventure.

Anyway, as for redoing the episodes as new series episodes or big finish audios, keep in mind even the lost episodes are considered canon (Shada being a special case). In addition to audio CDs and attempted reconstructions, they were also adapted into novel form, although sometimes the novels feature differences from the TV series serial (For example, the Tenth Planet novelization changes the date from 1986 to 2000 and has a reference to The Man With The Golden Gun)

Funny thing is, a lot of the new series uses the audios and novels for inspiration, so they're kind of 'redoing' them in a sense.....

Starting in November, Colin Baker & Nicola Bryant will be starring in Big Finish audio dramas adapted from unmade television scripts from the mid-1980s. These were scripts commissioned for the show but never made.

Does that include the "missing" season 23?

That'll be cool to hear.

Canon in Doctor Who is worse than trying to keep the massive amount of Star Wars Expanded Universe stuff in line... Isn't the Whoniverse up to at least 3 lost cities of Atlantis?

And the number of times the planet Earth has been destroyed (The Ark, The End of the World, etc).

Is there any reason why they wouldn't work with the 11th Doctor for example? Although part of Power of The Daleks revolved around the wake of the Doctor's regeneration, I gather from the notes in the novelisation that they were changes that were made after Hartnell announced he was leaving.

Officially it's called Doctor Who: The Lost Stories, but it's also being referred to as "Missing Season 23" (the lineup of stories revealed in DWM #407). Would these be stories that were bumped due to "Trial of a Time Lord"?

"Canon" just doesn't matter in Doctor Who. Any inconsistencies are easily explained: "wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey". ;)

I've thought of this too, even if they only use the original story as a jumping off point. For example, it would be interesting to have a French Revolution story with the new Doctor or an encounter with Marco Polo.

And Douglas Adams used the plot for his novel Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency.

They're not referring to it as the lost S23 as only half the scripts actually come from that batch - the others include things like, for instance, Pat Mills's The Space Whale, (which almost made it into seasons 20, 21 and 22) and PJ Hammond's instalment of the actual season 23. But they are all based on unused scripts from the original series circa that time (though in some cases they've been built up from outlines rather than adapted from full scripts).

I dunno. I always thought Nicola Bryant should be SEEN and not heard.
