Redemption & tachyon detection grid

The one remaining problem is that when Picard arrives and deploys his fleet, Romulans make no comment whatsoever on the enemy ships dispersing. If Picard's force suddenly split in 23 and the formation expanded from five hundred meters to fifty lightyears, surely there would be amazed gasps? Yet the Romulans continue to refer to Picard's ships as a "fleet" as if no splitting up worth writing home about had taken place.

Bingo:

MOVAR: There's an increase in tachyon emissions from the Federation fleet.
SELA: They're using the beams as a detection field.

SELA: Ah. Then I can tell my superiors that a fleet of twenty three Federation starships is on our border for, what, humanitarian reasons?

MOVAR: Picard is redeploying the fleet to compensate for the missing ship. There's a gap opening in the net.
Also, redeploying a formation dozens of light-years across shouldn't have happened so quickly.

"Prepare to go around the detection grid."
"But Commander, it's 50 light years wide!"
"We're not going around. We're going... over."
"Over?"
"Yes, over."
"But how, Commander?"
"You see, I have postulated that space doesn't consist merely of a 2D plane, but is, in fact, three dimensional."
"That's insane!"
"Yes, it appears that way, but we're going to try regardless."

<10 seconds later>

"Captain, the Romulan fleet is gone!"
"Where did they go?"
"I don't know sir! They just vanished!"
"Perhaps they warped back to Romulus."
"It's possible, sir, but what if..."
"Go on, Ensign."
"What if they went... over, sir?"
"Over?"
"Yes, over."
"Don't be daft, man. You can't just go over people in space. You can only go around."
"Yes, sir, I'm sorry, sir. It was a foolish idea."
