Red Dwarf, this weekend

Well, it WAS the first part of what is essentially a 1 and a half hour movie. It picked up a little toward the end (Katarina's constant belittling of Rimmer was funny) but it wasnt cram packed. I feel there going for a little solitude sickness with Lister though, at least I hope thats why the first quarter hour was just fancy shmancy establishing shots. And I Do mean Fancy Shmancy, Pretty damn good CG in this for what is essentially a cheap satellite channel production.

Having said that, It IS missing something. It felt odd without the canned laughter, im not saying it needed it, it was just odd.

Heres to hoping the next 2 parts are lol funny and not just chuckle funny.

OK, that wasn't too bad. Was it Red Dwarf of old, no, was it better than any current comedy show I can think of? Yes.
My feelings too.

Things definitely picked up when Katerina materialised. :bolian:
Yeah, and although they did over-do it a bit, Rimmer's cowardliness was classic Rimmer.
And was it me, or did almost all of it seem to be greenscreened backgrounds with very little actual set?

It was good enough considering part 1's are normally just set ups so am looking forward to episode 2 & 3. Also I lovehow Dave has just renamed itself to Dave Lister for a bit ...

Am annoyed they killed off Kancholski in the off screen time, was she not invited back? and I would like explanations to how she died and how Red Dwarf survived the series eight cliffhanger. Also I thought RED DWARF only had light hologram tech and Rimmer got his hard light tech from an alien being...Rimmer said the ship has only one hard light...Come to think of it they didn't explain properly how the ship created two at once anyway for a long period of time.

Anyway fan picking a side it was fine, not better than old Dwar but good, needs the laughtrack BACK wird without one.

Aye, that was alright. Some decent laughs in it. Bit of an an abrupt ending though, could have done with a line of dialogue after the rift thing opened up, but that's a minor quibble.

So obviously there's something not quite right about Officer McBoobs. She must be using them to get, or achieve, something. I'm kinda doubting that she's actually a hologram, which would explain Rimmer's unanswered question about there being two holograms operating on RD. I reckon she appeared from wherever the squid went to, and immediately assumed a form that would help her blend in for the time being.

Looking forward to part 2.

The ship has generated 2 holograms before... Me2.
I'm thinking Katerina is maybe something transdimentional herself, she appeared when the squid disappeared.

Looks like we had the same idea, Servo.

Does anyone know of a site that will have Dave's rantings on it?
I notice BBC and ITV put repeats on

I think that this miniseries pretty much ignores everything which happened after season 4, and if that is the only way for me to enjoy it then I'm okay with that.

It was alright, I had a few good chuckles while watching it. It was certainly better than I feared it was going to be.

Agreed. I will openly admit that as soon as I saw Lister and Rimmer interacting in their first scene, a good tingle went up my spine. It felt a little like the good old days of Series 1 for one brief moment, but without the open enmity.

I did also love the CG skutters. :)

It was fairly average, nowhere near as good as anything pre season 7 which is connected with Rob Grant leaving. Its just not as funny. Also the absence of the canned laughter didn't do any favours. I know they're going for a cinematic feel but meh, its not as funny with that absence which is going to be the most important thing for any sci fi sitcom. However the CGI was very good, it has the best sfx of any red dwarf episode obviously due to tech improvements. I would like an explanations of for the events immediately after season 8.

Usually Digital Spy will put details up of any thing like this, maybe even BBC News will put it up. If not, you'll have to wait a couple of weeks and look on Barb's site.

Looks like it was shot in HD, too.
from Dave's website

For all those who have been asking about the new eps in their countries, be assured we haven't forgotten about you. Dave will be releasing the shows on DVD and Blu Ray later this year. You will be able to order the DVD's from this very site, shortly after Easter
