Red Dwarf, this weekend

How about that, Dave go againts their word. I was looking forward to the Blue-Ray version.

I hope so, I don't want to buy it if it's not on Blu-Ray.

lol @ me saying Blue-Ray

^I know, I'm thinking about cancelling my DVD pre-order until I can find the blu-ray, but then if they never release it I... well, I guess I wouldn't really be that broken up about it.

Bit late coming to the party but thought I'd add my two pence worth as well.

I'm even later to the party. But it only just dawned on me to find the special in 9 chopped up bits on Youtube.

The plus for me was that the cast have still got it, seriously it was like they hadn't been away, and I for one would love to see a new series now...but....

But they have to get some new blood in on the writing side of things. Back to Earth was incredibnly unoriginal in almost every way. The Blade Runner bits were amusing, but again not really original for obvious reasons.

The premise is still sound, the cast are still brilliant, but the ideas need to be better.

Agreed. Doug Naylor has an obvious affinity for the material but his writing has been running on fumes for ages.

A decent special at times. Part 1 took way too long to get going. The bunk scenes felt especially off due to the absence of a studio audience. It felt like the actors were pausing for laughter that only they could hear. These actors are as much performers as they are actors, genius performers. A studio audience gives them something to perform toward. It works differently for different shows. M*A*S*H w/laugh track=bad. Red Dwarf w/laugh track=good.

I missed Holly. It's not a big deal that he wasn't there but he was always one of my favorites. And it felt weird not having him there for at least some of the exposition when they were still on Red Dwarf.
But at least we did get a little bit of Kochanski. I thought they were going to cheap out on us and not show her at all. I'm glad they didn't. But I can understand not including her for the most part. I don't think the character, from a comedic standpoint, coexists with Rimmer very well.

I was actually bummed out by the nature of the Coronation Street bits. I had thought that they were going to be meeting the actual character, not the real Craig Charles.

I don't think the DVD's been out very long. I saw it in HMV yesterday still on the New Releases shelf at the front of the shop.

It only got released at the beginning of the week.

Mine came today, episodes still fun, commentary as funny as any from the episodes of the other seasons, and it was nice to see some new smeg ups.
