His post seemed rather hypothetical to me.
"Father's Day" is strikingly like Donnie Darko...
I liked it. It had it's moments, some good, others quite average, but then alot of Red Dwarf is like that. I thought the ending of the last episode was classic Red Dwarf which would have fitted into any previous series we've seen really.
I'm not sure everyone here appreciates what this little special has achieved. It has singlehandedly opened the door and paved the way for something many of us thought was no longer possible - a new series (or more) of Red Dwarf. For that alone, it is to be commended.
Yes but if that series is of the same quality and is just going to rehash old episodes badly, do we really want it? What can we expect for the first episode, Polymorph 3: Electric Boogaloo?
The new easter specials may not be classic Red Dwarf at it's most brilliant, but then neither was classic Red Dwarf half the time
I liked her in Jekyll and was easy on the eyes in spandex and leather.
I read from page 1 to page 12, then sipeed the rest.
My God, what a bunch of whining! It was bad! And I've been in the STXI threads! You ought to be ashamed of yourselves! It's a fucking TV show!
"Ooo, they didn't have Holly! Ooo, there was no lafftrack! Ooo, it was derivative! Ooo, they ripped off Blade Runner! Ooo, THEY RAPED MY CHILDHOOD!"
All that kind of whining is why producers of all stripes don't take SF fans seriously. The endless nitpicks. The endless complaints. The endless"it's not as good as the old stuff" (when the old stuff wasn't as good as you remembered anyway).
To be (a little bit) fair, it was MUCH better to watch it io one hit. Watching it on a per episode basis would not have been enjoyable. The real problem, in that regard, was that all the payoff was in the last episode. It would have made a really good 1 hour ep, I think.
For me, who did watch it in one hit, it wasn't great, but it was fun. Pretty much what I thought about the Who special as well. Why can't you just kick back and have fun, for fuck's sake? It's not hard.
The geek in me, the geek who used to save up three weeks of his pocket money at a time to buy Red Dwarf videos from a long-bankrupt high street gaming store, is dying a slow, painful death.
I protest! Donnie Darko was some things happening based on the worlds most idiotic plot that would have Spock raising an eyebrow and saying "Highly Illogical, Jim, and a bit crap."
I call it as I see it.^ To be fair to me, that is pretty much what I said - just not as insulting or patronzing.
"Back to Reality" was the most popular episode so I guess they wanted to copy that success.

Wow, £20 for a 3 part DVD?
I suppose it IS a feature length presentation, but I was expecting £20-£25 for a Blu Ray, let alone a DVD.
