Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charles

Re: Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charl

That was good fun again, though the second episode is still my favourite of this run. (So far I'd rank them, best to worst, as 2, 1, 4, 3)

Same order from me. Seemed tonight's had some great lines but overall the laughs fell flat. Some how the whole was less than the sum of the parts.

And they're going to leave all those thousands of stasis pods full the last members of humanity to go bad from freezer burn?

Nicely done. Though I feel bad for poor Irene though.

I thought they said hers was the only one still active - presumably the others only have frozen corpses inside

I thought that the first half of the episode was good, the second half got a bit messy and jumped all over the place, but it remained humorous enough.

I've just caught up with the series and I agree with the consensus; Lemons was a misstep, but the other three episodes have been pretty good. Not as good as the best of Red Dwarf, but good enough that nostalgia smooths out the rough edges.

I really enjoyed this one! Perhaps my favorite so far. I can't get over that we're watching new Red Dwarf that might as well be from Red Dwarf's Golden Age.

Lots of easy banter and comfortable familiar characters with cool new stuff thrown in. What's not to like? I enjoyed the references to previous Red Dwarf plots.

I can't believe there are only 2 more left. I'm so hoping there are additional seasons. How have the ratings been?

Rimmer said there was one with the light on. So, presumably the others are empty or have corpses.

Series started as the second highest rated show UKTV Network has had in it's 20 year history. The highest being Back to Earth episode 1. The ratings have been high for a digital channel, sometimes even as high as the lower ratings on the main Networks.

Red Dwarf X's third episode 'Lemons', in which the gang found themselves marooned in 23 AD, pulled in 1.16m (5.2%) in the 9pm hour - putting itself ahead of Channel 5.

Fun episode. Squeezed in a lot of things which I kinda liked. You don't usually see such busy episodes until the final episode of the series. Like that they keep things moving.

Also I think Cat is the star of this series. Gives me the biggest laughs.

I was cracking up at Rimmer describing all this interesting (expensive) stuff to open the door with only blackness seen behind. :)

Just like classic Doctor Who. The ol' TARDIS door, opening into.. NOTHING!

I think this is my favourite episode so far.

Just LOVING it!

It's a nostalgia trip tied in with fun plots and classic banter between a bunch of blokes working with complete ease together!

Roll on series XI and more!!!!

Re: Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charl

I really dug Lemons, it felt like the kind of high concept stories that I enjoyed from Red Dwarfs later run.

However, there's a lot to be said for the episodes that mostly take place on the ship and just feature the core cast. These four work really well together, and it's just a joy seeing them do it again after all this time. Am I the only one that found Irene(E) really really hot? I was rooting for Rimmer to hook up with her.

Re: Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charl

I thought this one was the weakest of the series so far

But yeah, Irene was cute

Nerd alert!

How did Rimmer walk through the door? Although he can project 'soft' light, his light bee is a little machine and is not holographic.

Yeah I thought the same thing. Handy when it vanishes for a few minutes ;)

Plus, Professor Irene was cute, which never hurts.

I'd also question how Rimmer managed to walk right through the door in soft light mode; why didn't his light bee catch on the door? (but let's just say he used some other kind of holographic projection technology).

Yeah, it's hand-waving, but who knows what new tech he acquired in the "missing" series/years between the last season we saw and this one. ;)
