Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charles

Re: Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charl

I thought S8 was the funniest series, if not the best overall.

Yeah, I freakin' loved S8.

I just rewatched it a few days ago and it had me in stitches... esp. "Krytie TV"!

I can't wait to see the guys back at it.

"Krytie TV" was a great high point. "Cassandra" was also a solid episode. "Back in the Red" was a suitably epic beginning to the season.

But honestly, Series VIII ran out of steam in the last 2 or 3 episodes. The scene with Captain Hollister describing the dino-crapping in "Pete, Part 2" telegraphed all of its jokes. And most of "Only the Good..." seemed to consist of discarded bits from the rest of the season. Although I am quite fond of "Have a fantastic period!" as well as the Grim Reaper showing up at the end.

With no point of reference (ie: another ship) it was always hard to tell the size.

Just descriptions of the # of decks & whatnot.

The remastered ship was far, far longer than the original.

When Back to Earth came around they modified the above CG model to better resemble the original ship:

Oh, for sure the S8 version was longer, proportionately. I always chalked that up to the nanobots rebuilding it to the "pre budget cut" specs :)

I wonder if they'll make any references to how things got reset after S8.

Also, I think it would be great if they encountered one of the two cat arks, even if it's the one that crashed into an asteroid.

Official Red Dwarf YouTube channel is up. Just one video so far:

Somehow the world feels right....

I must say, I thought they'd look silly still trying to pass themselves off as the characters after all this time. But that promotional pic goes a long way to sell it for me. I'm looking forward to this now.

The guys look great!

Is it me, or is Rimmer's outfit similar to his S3 outfit, just blue instead of green?

Re: Red Dwarf series 9 (or is it 10?) in 2012 confirmed by Craig Charl

S3 & S4, Rimmer had mostly the green uniform and a couple times a green shirt/sweater with suspenders.

S5, the red one.

S6, the red quilted job, then the blue quilted one.

S7, the blue quilted one.

So yeah, the one in the new image is closest to the red & green smooth uniforms from S3 - S5.

They posted a much better quality image on the official Facebook page, though under close examination it's actually a different shot altogether. Anyway, here it is:

Photobucket (free account anyway) doesn't seem to want it any wider than 800 pixels, so if you want the full 1000 pixel wide version go to the Facebook page.

ETA: Just read that visual effects designer Peter Wregg, the guy who designed the Red Dwarf herself (as well as a bunch of other work on the show), passed away on the 20th. He also did work on Doctor Who, apparently, as well as Thunderbirds and UFO.

I'm going to go ahead and ask the question: where are they supposed to be in that photo. Thatr looks like some sort of cockpit, but it's too small to be the Dwarf's. Redesigned Stabug cockpit, perhaps? Or even a new shuttle/scout?

I also enjoyed Series VII, but folk like us are in the minority :p

That said I liked Series VIII, but it did have a few clunkers.

They changed sets way more than Lister changed his underwear in the original series, so could be anywhere.

Spiral staircase in the background though.

I would guess shuttle/Starbug/midget judging by the size & layout.

So is 'Back to Earth' any good? It's the only Red Dwarf I haven't seen, and I was just curious if it was worth the 20 bucks Amazon is asking for it.

It's available on Netflix, too, isn't it? (If you have that streaming service).

I've only seen the first part, which was amusing, but I never bothered to finish it. With this new season/series, I might take another look at it.

Going by this they're in Red Dwarf's Drive Room.

Here's an obscured picture of the set from an article posted on the offical Red Dwarf site last December.

If you look closely in between the three guys standing together you can just make out the console that Rimmer and Kryten are sitting at in the promotional picture. It looks they're going for a series two-ish style Drive Room with a foreground console.

No it really wasn't.

And hell no it's not worth $20.

Not in the slightest.

It's a ripoff/remake of season 5's Back To Reality, with actors who've forgotten how they used to play their characters, and a really embarrassing meta subplot crowbarred in, in which the characters interact with actors and fans of Red Dwarf...

Urgh.
