Series 10 of Red Dwarf announcement just been made at DJ 09. To clarify the scripts have been commissioned, wont be filming til 2010

And from various other sources

Dimension Jump attendees have just been the first to be informed - by Doug Naylor, via email passed on by Andrew Ellard - that Dave have commissioned six new episodes of Red Dwarf for broadcast in late 2010.
Also, it’s been hinted that (a) there may actually end up being more than six, depending on budget; and (b) it’ll probably have a studio audience.

I'm not going to kid myself and say I won't watch because of course I will, but I'm not going to get my hopes up after Back To Earth.

Well, this is good news of course.

They've already plumbed the depths of unfunnyness on several occasions, so i'm not worried about them sullying the good reputation of Red Dwarf, but if it's done with an audience that gives me some hope.

But for god's sake, please let somebody else write it, that's just a pipe dream though I fear.

Yep, basically series 9 took place off screen, Back To Earth happens 10 years later and series 10 takes place after Back To Earth.

I haven't seen Back to Earth yet, but I'm still thrilled. I've been re-watching the series on DVD and would love another installment. Series VII was my favorite year anyway, so I tend to zone out when people start complaining that the new series needs to be like the "earlier, funny ones."

We're talking about a show that explained away Lister giving birth to 2 babies, added a new crew member and changed the gender of another via an opening scrawl that was too fast to read. A show that took somebody's appendix out twice, has shifted chronological setting without explanation between 3 different centuries and has routinely changed the back stories of the main characters wherever it has suited them to.

I just got the Back to Earth DVD in the mail today! Can't wait to see it, no matter how "bad" it is. Any new Red Dwarf is good news to me! Hell I loved Series Eight. Thought it was hilarious.

We're talking about a show that explained away Lister giving birth to 2 babies, added a new crew member and changed the gender of another via an opening scrawl that was too fast to read. A show that took somebody's appendix out twice, has shifted chronological setting without explanation between 3 different centuries and has routinely changed the back stories of the main characters wherever it has suited them to.

Don't forget wiping the fact the Starbug was destroyed by turning it in to a paradox that wiped out that time line as well as made Starbug bigger.

I actually thought that was as decent way as any to pick up the series since they're notorious for not actually picking up from a cliffhanger anyway.

They recently announced a deal with RDF for other original programming too.

From Digital Spy
UKTV has announced a new partnership with RDF Media for script development of future live-action comedy and animation commissions on Dave.
Under the deal, RDF Media will develop three pilot scripts, including one animated series, with UKTV hoping at least one of the shows will be broadcast on Dave in the second half of 2010.
