Red Blooded Spock??

I had a WTF moment on my 10th viewing when I almost blurted out loud in the theater "Spock doesn't have red blood!!!!". I hadn't paid attention to the color of the blood on his lip before, but there it was when Sarek and little Spock were having their heart to heart after the school fight.

Well, it WAS in a $3 cheapo theater with a wrinkled bedsheet for a screen, so maybe the color was off, too.

Yup, and the bruises on his face were greenish too. But I've only seen the movie 12 times, and only 6 of those were in IMAX.

I don't remember seeing any red blood on young Spock, although the greenish bruises made me want to kiss them and make them all better - that was one seriously adorable little boy.

Now - ADULT Spock, yes, in some tight close-ups you can see little red veins in the corner of his eyes...but alas, that's what you get when you have to cast a human actor - all the Vulcans turned down the role.

Does colorblindness run in your family? I'm not trying to be insulting - in most colorblindness, the most common trait is an inability to distinguish between certain shades of green and red, the two colors at stake here.

Speaking of which, did anybody notice if Nimoy had the green-hued skin in this movie? I'm painting up a sculpt of mine, and am trying to decide whether to give him that yellowish-green hue or not.

In the few pics I have, it sure doesn't APPEAR he has it, and I know it went missing in some of the earlier TOS movies too...

(Of course for that matter, Quinto didn't seem to have it either as Spock.)

Speaking of which, did anybody notice if Nimoy had the green-hued skin in this movie?

The makeup used on Nimoy in all of TOS and the features - and even on characters such as Dr Selar on TNG - is a Max Factor blend created for TOS makeup artist, Fred Phillips. It's called LN1 (Leonard Nimoy 1). It's a yellowish/flesh colour, not green. If it ever appears green it's a trick of studio lighting and gels. The movies were lit quite differently to the way TOS was lit.

Werner Kepler (ST II) tried a few things differently for ST II but Nimoy is actually a stickler for keeping the Spock makeup true to the Phillips method.

Differences in lighting is also why Data appears whitish in TNG but goldish in the features. The different lighting pick up different aspects of the makup.

In the promo shots, Quinto's skin does look like it's painted yellowish-green, but it doesn't show up dramatically on screen. But the color of his pink lips versus the foundation makeup is very obvious. The pictures where he is next to rosy-faced Pine also make the tint stand out.
