Record Weekend for Subscriptions for CBS All Access

I'm not sure they do. Doomcock, Midnight's Edge and the rest cater to the Angry Fanboy. They make monetized videos saying what the Angry Fanboy wants to hear, that the shows they hate are failing. I doubt they truly believe it themselves, they're just making money off of fools. Like Alex Peters is still trying to do years after losing all credibility.

And peters is now joiining them in hate filled youtube videos to make money

I'm surprised that there appears to be people rooting for the Orville or discovery to fail. Either one failing is not good news for the space genre. They are so different I find it easy to like both.

I think Orville's success is good for the sci-fi genre, but because it is a comedy (or masquerades as one), it's cancellation wouldn't necessarily be bad for it.

They think that Discovery is such a failure, that the other shows will replace it.

I enjoy Discovery and can’t stand the hate-baiting YouTubers, but the indication that “Some of these [new shows] can be considered as replacements as opposed to additions” [per Julie McNamara] is a troubling one.

The Picard show hasn’t started, Lower Decks is some way off and has a two-season order and the Georgiou show isn’t meant to start until after Disco S3.

What is there for one of those shows to replace other than Discovery?

This is what everyone said when DS9 launched. It wasn't a replacement for TNG, which continued until it ran its course. Disco might not last seven years, but there's no indication it'll be cut short like Enterprise.

Discovery's timeslots will be the only thing getting replaced. I expect Trek 50 weeks a year pretty soon .

Could be they have a plan for each show to have a limited run?

Funny thing about the Picard show is that from what I understand it’s not going to be an ongoing Trek series like we’ve been used to, but rather a limited series event. Which would make sense. I’m not sure Stewart wants to commit to shooting on set wearing a space suit for another seven years.

Well yeah, every show has a limited run. Except the fucking Simpsons.

I guess Disco will go for maybe five seasons? Sounds like CBS plan to have something in the works pretty much constantly. Much cheaper than tying your cast down for expensive lengthy contracts, which is what did for TNG.

That's different from the "CBS is CANCELLING Discovery because it's a disaster" clickbait video claims.

Could run for three years, then be rebranded with only a character or two continuing on the story.

Definitely conceivable. I think the days of the same seven actors standing on the same set for seven years are over.

With as much as they are pushing Tilly for command tract I'm almost expecting at some point a captain tilly show.

I did resbuscribe for Discovery, and helped the numbers. You guys are welcome.

And don't give too much credit to the football game. Most people, like me, watched the game on regular CBS network. Signing up with a streaming service to watch a game that is on a broadcast network is idiotic. But I guess some people have to watch everything on their computers.

And speaking of football: Go Rams!

It is only idiotic if you get the broadcast network. However in the era of cord cutters there are many people who don't have cable anymore so things like cbs all access may be there best way to watch stuff like that

You don't need cable for broadcast networks. They can invest in an antenna instead and get all the broadcast channels. I know the old antennas used for analog TVs were a pain in the ass that drove people to sign up for cable. But antennas for digital TVs work great.

Cord cutting was intended to save on the monthly bills. But if instead of a cable company they pay for a whole bunch of streaming services then that is not super smart.

Not everyone can get ota broadcasts where they live. My parents are in the outskirts of a decent sized metro area (1.5 mil). They're a 25 minute drive to downtown. The only network they get ota is Fox. Nothing else.

As so many others have asked, why would any of the new shows need to be replacements for any CBSAA shows, least of all DSC?

This is not broadcast network TV. CBS' streaming service can create and stream as many Trek shows or any other kind), that they want to. There is no need to consider time slots, or counter programing, or any of those "old world" considerations.

I would like to ask someone at CBS why they changed the release day for new episodes from Sunday to Thursday. I'm sure that wasn't done by accident.

Thursday has traditionally been the most-watched night of television of the week, with higher ad revenues, etc. I'm not sure if that plays a part in the CBS AA plan that has commercials.

This is probably for the better. Aside from DS9, Berman Trek hasn't done a good job with ensemble casts, often leaving a quarter or more of them underdeveloped and underutilized, with the nadir being Mayweather.

I use a recent-model DTV antenna in order to get decent home reception on KUSC-FM. And I climbed up And my stereo receiver is the only thing it's hooked up to.

As to making it limited-run, well, I think we all know that JMS designed Babylon 5 to be a 5-year-long miniseries. And as to letting DSC run for a few years, making some personnel changes, and going on for a few more, and so on, indefinitely, well, that was, as I recall, the original plan for TNG, before Patrick Stewart turned out to be the breakout character.

And I just now learned that TVShowOnDVD shut down just shy of 8 months ago :(:(:(:brickwall:
