One thing I keep reading is how Star Trek needs to up the takings outside the USA. Apart from the UK, Australia and Germany Trek has not done well internationally. I thought it would be interesting to post how the reception has been in other countries.
The mood here in South Africa has definitely been on the up.
Star Trek has been relegated to satellite TV here. The normal terrestrial channels tried showing it, but gave up after a few seasons.
This is the first Star Trek movie to be released on the same day as the USA. I guess we have piracy to thank for that!
Nemesis arrived 8 months later! I have my US released DVD by then!
Barry Ronge, arguably the most well known movie critic has been raving about it on all his outlets. On Johannesburg's biggest talk station, he went on about it so much, the morning show presenter said he was going to see the movie that afternoon.
I remember he pointed out the faults with Nemesis and Insurrection, but quite enjoyed First Contact.

There was a chap I was working with a few months back, and he was a Star Wars fan, said he had no time for Star Trek.
Saw him a month back, said he had seen the trailer, and he was going to see the movie.
I checked the online bookings, where you can book your seat, and all the big cinemas in Joburg were around 75% prebooked for this evening's show.
Is there a different buzz for this movie compared to previous movies in other countries too?
