Recent TV Shows You Gave Up On.

I just watched Six Feet Under for the first time this month. I watched all the episodes, and it's 58 hours long, I did the math, in 3-4 weeks. I have watched the ending to the show at least a dozen times, probably closer to 15-16 times. It is so freaking great.

And if you read what the episodes are about on the DVD summaries it sounds like the most boring show ever and yet it's great. The only thing is it takes a few episodes to get into the show because it's all about the characters and obviously you don't give a damn about the characters when you first start the show.

Also the Tremors TV show is great fun. I was just watching the first movie today and thought about how the show needs to be on DVD.

Dollhouse
I usually don't give up on a show so soon but it's like I forget it's even on.

That's because (so far) it has been exactly that--forgettable. Even I've given up on it, and I'm one of those kool-aid drinking Whedon fans who (up until Dollhouse) thought nearly everything the guy did was brilliant.

I'm surprised so many of you are giving up on crime shows...I'd recommend In Plain Sight on USA if you're fed up with traditional police shows.
Maybe folks are fed up with the genre. I know I am - it's so damn stale and predictable. And you reminded me that I bailed on In Plain Sight after the premiere. Didn't see anything special about it.
Interesting, I actually thought it was pretty unique because of the witness protection angle. It wasn't like they were out beating the street trying to solve cases, they were protecting witnesses and families from harm, which was cool. I enjoyed that angle a lot and can't remember ever seeing that done before. I'd recommend trying out season 2 when it comes back man, it's come into it's own over first season.

Bones has been drastically decreasing in the show´s appeal, Family Guy and American Dad have stopped being worth the time several seasons ago and the Simpsons aren´t that much better either.
Dollhouse doesn´t offer much either and is Fringe even still in existance?

Well I guess technically right now I have given up on Heroes because I haven't watched the third season yet. I am still planning to though.

I was disappointed in the second season in that their payoffs fell really flat after their build-ups. The Kenzo/Adam storyline was really badly bungled. We spent weeks and weeks with the Kenzo character, and barely any time with the Adam character. So when they tried to make him this great menace in the present we really understood little of his motivations or his viewpoint. Parkman's father was a huge letdown as well. I mean he was supposed to be this terryfying presence watching you from afar and he turns out to be a schlumpy bald guy who gets beaten by his son, who is far less used to his powers, the second time they go at it?

I am still curiois where Clair's father's and Sylar's stories go so I will start checking them out soon. I know critical consensus is really down on it though.

I'm giving up on BSG! Frak it, they should have just ended it where it was last week instead of extending it to a fifth season.

Sanctuary.
Oh right that one. Didn't even make it thru a whole episode.

Any suggestions? i'm willing to give anything a watch, which reminds me, i need to find some BSG dvds and get watching them.
Worthwhile shows now airing:

Lost
Dexter
Chuck
Reaper
Breaking Bad
Damages
(I gave up, but if you don't loathe lawyer shows, maybe you'll fare better)
Mad Men (if you have a high tolerance for a slow plot and appreciate artsy fartsy stuff)
Entourage
Big Love
Tudors
(as long as you aren't terribly picky about historical accuracy)
Kings (not sure if I'm sticking with it, but it's intriguing)
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia

(Watch out for "spoilers" in that BSG link above. ;))

I've really enjoyed the episodes of "Life On Mars" I've seen, but considering it ends this coming week I suppose everybody has to give up on it,eh?

Heroes.
(I broke off around the beginning of Season 3)
Smallville
(first season)
Stargate Atlantis
Stargate
Life (got distracted)
Battlestar Galactica (The new one)

I never watched Heroes - reading this thread, I'm kind of glad of that fact!

I have given up on:
Smallville, bailed after season 5, although watching 4 and 5 was more in morbid fascination than any hope of actual recovery.
ER - Bailed for season 12, with the loss of every single character I liked and not one of the new cast was remotely interesting. I may eventually catch up on DVD though, it seems a shame after 12 years not to finish the thing.
Stargate Atlantis - Dedicated fan of the franchise until the End of SG-1's 8th season and Atlantis' first. Then the shows really couldn't grip me. I stuck with SG-1 till the end as I'd seen so much of it, but Atlantis never caught my interest again and I bailed mid season 3. Haven't a clue what's going on anymore, but from a quick skim of the Gateworld summaries, I'm not missing much.

I almost bailed on nuBSG during the season 3 love quadrangle obsessing-over-New-Caprica stuff. In retrospect, glad I didn't.

Fringe
Kings
Prison Break
The Spectacular Spider-Man
Supernatural

And to a lesser extent:
Dollhouse
Lost
True Blood

BSG - Sometime at the beginning of the season that started in March '08.

When something stops being entertainment and is just depressing, angsty c***s in space, it's time to stop watching.

Judging from what I've read of the finale, I am VERY glad I did!

Is anyone else starting to find CSI:NY a bit 'meh', i find myself getting up and leaving the TV more often that i used to when it's on, it just can't hold my interest anymore.

I actually think that CSI: NY has gotten moderately better while CSI: Miami has gotten incomprehensibly worse. I've decided to give BBC's Robin Hood a wide berth as soon as I heard about Friar Tuck (who is as plausible as Afro Samurai).

I've officially given up on Kings. Just don't care.

And my on-again-off-again dalliance with 30 Rock is over. Too sitcommy.

Can anybody give any reason why Heroes went downhill so fast? I mean it wasn't that awsome to begin with and from the start felt a bit listless, however its deficiencies got even worse instead of being polished off or obscured by a strong sense of direction, with a memorable classic episode every so often (like post-S1 NuWho).
