"Recapturing the 'Magic' of 'STAR WARS'"

I still say that what we got in TLJ was a lot more interesting than perfect hero Luke teaching Rey everything he knows and then rushing in to save the day. That would have just been boring and shallow, at least what got instead tried to say something a bit more interesting.
The best part though, is that after everything, he still rushed in and saved the day, and made what was IMO one of the best heroic sacrifices we've gotten in the franchise.

Well, I think that the new trilogy might look and feel like SW, but that it's merely going through the motions. It doesn't seem to have the heart or the spark that made the OT so special and that to me is what is considered the "magic." I know that the prequels have long been lambasted, but at the very least they still captured some of that magic.

For me, a large part of the problem with the new trilogy is that it's simply not cohesive enough. The theming is all but non-existent, and the villains are simply just not very good or even very present. Compare that to the OT where you had a very clear idea of Vader & Palpatine, their relationship, and where they stood in terms of their plans. Second movie into this trilogy and we still have no clear idea where the First Order stands in terms of being a power, or even what kind of hierarchy they have, only that Kylo apparently exists in a power vacuum, and frankly that's not very good development. It lends less narrative weight. As a result, it makes it feel like the heroes are fighting ramdomly without really knowing what they're fighting for. It just doesn't feel credible.

The First Order is fight to eliminate the New Republic. Snoke is their leader, and Hux and Kylo Ren exist in a tense but somewhat equal footing. Hux is a toady and more than willing to capitulate to those in power.
Not sure what is unclear about their plans...destroy the Resistance and the Republic and the Jedi.

I don't think Solo needed to be made, but it was a fun and entertaining movie. As for the other movies, I've enjoyed every thing Disney has done with the franchise. I was a fan of the prequels, which really burned me out on Star Wars. But this has renewed it.

I am upset about not getting that book series about Jaina Solo though.

The thing that pisses me off is not knowing who Kol Skywalker's mother is. I'm thinking Tahiri.

Rey's "defeat" of a mortally wounded Ren was much less impressive than seeing a guy succeeding in what can only be compared to firing a bullet into a pop can from 500m away with a scopeless hunting rifle.

Star Wars needs to go away again in order to reclaim the magic. Then reboot the orginal movies because I think deep down people are only going to really ever care about Luke,Han,Leia,Vadar etc. Only I wouldn't reboot the Classic movie stories but just the characters. Also anything even remotely politcal should be avoided. Hopefully the world will be in a more stable place by then so maybe the real world will not interfere with how people feel about the movies. Just go back to fantasy based light hearted adventure stuff. Also less in-universe poltics as well. I could care less about the Jedi Council or the any of the governments. A Jedi is basically just a guy or lady who is good at sword fights. You don't got to get all metaphysical worshiping of what they do. It was good in "Empire" kind of okay in "The Last Jedi" but it is something I am bored with and it was really awful in the prequels.

Even though the politics made no sense in TPM I did like what AOTC and ROTS did. The Clone Wars was interesting, at least, with the manufactured crisis and how the Jedi were manipulated. But the crisis in TPM was confusing.

the crisis in TPM was confusing.

How? The Senate wanted to raise taxes on trade routes and the Trade Federation objected, so they chose to blockade a planet.

It's really not that complicated. The complications come from Palpatine's machinations behind the scenes.

Why? So many story elements, for practically everything, are informed by our politics and morals. Without those, you get stuff as deep as: See Dick Run.

You might want to recheck who you quoted, because I never said that.

Maybe that's the case, but if so, they telegraphed it terribly. Most of the attention is on Kylo (as if he were a lone wolf and the only thing that mattered about the First Order) and none of the relationship is developed. And any tension between Snoke is quickly dissipated and taken care of (Palpatine wasn't taken out until the last movie). It's as if they forgot they had three movies in order to play things out and simmer out the tension to a grand plan. Everything is played out in simplified strokes. Characters are simply wasted. Phasma is a tragic example. In a better planned series of movies, she could have had more to do and that goes back into the kind of hierarchy I'm talking about.

The Darth Plagueius book goes into more detail about the Sith schemes if you’re confused.
