Fair enough.
I'm mostly operating on curiosity and "it can't be that bad".
I've been waiting for the Snyder Cut to see this movie as I find his movies are better if Snyder has the time to tell the story. Also, with streaming and home video, I can watch a four hour movie over three nights if I want.

Snyder says the extended versions are like watching entirely different movies. So, I guess that means I waited all these months without a reason.
Well, I haven't seen the original version because I was waiting for the Director's Cut, but all the reviews say it's just longer and more bloated (with a few more swear words and nudity).
I'm very torn, but I think there are better ways to waste 3 and a half hours of your life.
The trailer showed a lot of scenes that give the impression of a totally different movie, so after those reviews I am a bit curious.
I might give it a try today, it's Lazy Sunday for me. I'm just a little worried it's going to be nothing more than "here's more gore and boobs because we can" and that's it. Like GoT and such shows.

Plot twist: there isn't any actual new footage, there's just more sections of the movie shown in slow motion.
I watched the first half of Part 1 last night. It was very brutal and graphic--so far, the general doesn't seem to have any motivation except that he is bad and mean--but neither did the Emperor in the SW OT. As for the other characters, I've only met a couple of the main cast so far but they don't seem to be more poorly written than characters in other space opera movies I've seen. I'm just beginning a flashback exposition segment where Kora is describing her back story--I decided to pause there for the evening because the flashback was turning into an extended flashback. Keeping in mind that this was supposed to be Star Wars and now is basically still set in an alternative version of the Star Wars universe, I'm not going to be critical of the lack of original world building in the story. This is nothing ground breaking, but it certainly doesn't deserve the widespread criticism it received.
So are you watching the Rated R version? If so, especially curious what stuck out at you, and if the parts that seemed R felt significant to you
And my main criticism is that Battle Beyond the Stars from Richard Corman did a better job of helping us understand and like the characaters than Rebel Moon.
I haven't watched the R-rated version yet, but that's my fear. Blatent graphic violence because they can, not because it serves a story. We'll see. Maybe it's still an entertaining movie. Might try it today.

I’ll watch it tonight. I’m not expecting anything amazing but I’m sure it’ll be a fun watch.
To start, I'm not disturbed by graphic scenes in movies. However, if this had originally been written as a Star Wars film, I can see why it was rejected. There is some graphic brain bashing and a scene where Admiral Nobel picks through a dead guy's brain matter. There is a graphic sex scene with Kora where we see her scarred body. It wasn't a pointless scene though as she rejects any hint of affection from her suitor. There is also graphic dismemberment in the battle scenes.
As for the characters, I'm still waiting to learn about Kora's motivation to leave the Empire. Also, anyone who appears to be truly good has been killed. I've never seen Battle Beyond the Stars so I can't make comparisons to that--but I'm getting the vibe that we are not going to see characters who are truly noble and good--and we aren't really getting any motivations for the characters. I'm only two hours in so there is plenty of time for that.
but imagine the character development and plot line that could have been possible if attention had been applied there instead of needlessly explicity scenes of violence and gore.
Judging by this interview it doesn't sound too good for more Edgelord Star Wars in the future and for the six people who were waiting for all those 'Army of the Dead' spin-offs/sequels/animated series, yeah they're dead.
