If you're going to have Wesley be "An Ass", have him be Mirror-Universe Wesley Crusher.
One who didn't have his mother raise him, but maybe his father instead, and his father turned out to be a dead beat after his mother died.
Then you can justify the behavior.

Mariner (typical) trys to treat Crusher like an ass, Wesley responds by sending the ship beyond the edge of the observable universe. And then forgets where he put them.

I'm so ready for Will Wheaton to show up as "Traveler Version" of Wesley vs Mirror Universe Wesley.
Then "Traveler Version" of Wesley can come in and save the day and have a on-going battle with his mirror universe self.
Think of the "Traveler Version" of Wesley being less powerful than Superman, but with full on Traveler level of powers.
And Mirror Universe Wesley being a dick-ish asshole version of Lex Luthor, without the riches, sauve-ness, and more Macgyver cleverness to get in and out of situations.
I wouldn't mind a Mirror Universe of Wesley Crusher coming over and being a full on Arse that is also a menace to society.
