Spoilers Ready Room with Wil Wheaton

This was the first RR I think I completely watched for this season, and it was at first nice to see Wheaton toning down his syrupy delivery and second to really enjoy the installment overall. I may go back to watch the other RRs for this season.

Lol, ‘syrupy’ is a really good way of describing Wheaton’s continual gushing. I wish there was a little more light and shade, as EVERYTHING IS MEGA for every new series of Trek (honestly he must love Picard more than, say, Discovery, right?) He does a decent job overall though.

WW is a hype man but he is genuine and loves Star Trek. For him TNG was by and large his formative years and his costars are very close to family for him.

Since I know WW graces these boards from time to time, Wil..never stop

Amen. He is obviously genuine in his love for his former castmates. I think that camaraderie of the cast that TNG had was the best of any series. And it shone thru on screen, IMO. It took a bit to get it going, but was genuine.

I think TOS & DISCO are next. And SMG deserves credit for making it so. SNW has high potential on this score as well. .

The TNG cast is remarkably close IRL. They still go to each others houses for thanksgiving, etc..frankly I think it is what made TNG special. When DS9 ended the cast kind of just went their separate ways, same with Voyager. Sure you still have things like Kate Mulgrew spending time with Robert Picardo, but you don't really see the same level of bonding that the TNG cast did.

Well, his job on the RR is a promotional one, so he's just doing what he's being paid to do.

Honestly, if I had some form of influence in a new production of Star Trek.

I'd want to bring Wil Wheaton back as "Traveler Wesley Crusher" & "Mirror Universe Wesley Crusher".

Give him a range of roles to play in my shows =D.

Both will be "Enhanced / Super Powered".

I concur. I got the audiobook of his annotated memoir and it was quite insightful. It helped me feel more accepting of myself and provided examples of better ways to be a good person and nerd

I hope to someday meet him and thank him personally

The content Wheaton provides - "Streaming Trek is wonderful all the time!" - is dictated by his job. He's not a reporter. He's doing PR for P+.

Yes, his enthusiasm comes across as syrupy at times.

So, well, don't love him then. But as others have noted his enthusiasm is wholly honest, he's being true to himself on this show and he's really a great guy.

Indeed.

I actually like his line on it, because of the focus on the positives.

It rather irks me when people focus entirely on the negatives. Especially when it's done with a level of vehement anger that I tend to reserve for really horrrible people who do really horrible things. I don't have the energy to pour that much hatred towards an entertainment franchise that doesn't cater to my personally specific tastes. And believe me, theres a hell of a lot of entertainment media that doesn't.

Nothing Wil does really bothers me. I've not had the chance to meet him (my brother has a few times though) but years and years ago he had his blog on his website where he would post daily updates about every day life and his opinions and views, frustrations, etc. It really was just a genuine expression of who he is, and I respected him them and now for it.

Yep - this comes out of the P+ marketing not show budget! It's like complaining that in adverts people really like that soap powder.

(Plus Will clearly does like what he's pushing which helps).
