Re-booting TNG

I don't think so. I'm currently rewatching all of TNG (just finished "Q Who" this afternoon) and I find it hard to believe I'm watching a show from more than 20 years ago. I don't have the complaints that many do about seasons 1 and 2. I also think the production values were top notch and effects wise, the show could still stand up to some of the newer stuff out there. I also agree with the above post, trying to replace the wonderful actors we got we be nearly impossible, and ultimately lessen the experience.

as a tv miniseries, or TV movie, perhaps. As a motion picture, then no. I think TNG as a film franchise bore little fruit due to bad writing and poor premises. i mean, the biggest war in Federation history has its flagship and one of its most respected and revered captains who is a master of diplomacy, helping out a planet in a Federation backwater. yep, makes sense. lol..

Absolutely not. Considering the complaints people make against this show (it's too "PC", too eighties), I suspect a reboot would suck out many of the qualities that, for me, made it so special.

I think the quality of the writing on TNG can attest to part of that praise, though.

I agree that it's not needed. TNG had seven seasons and explored just about every facet of every character. What's left to do? It would be better to do new Trek with new characters.

So very few reboots are "needed." From an artistic standpoint.

It's a decision made by bean counters and executives.

If people really wanted to make a stand against reboots, they wouldn't watch said shows and films. Judging from the onslaught of continuous reboots being churned out by the Hollywood Shit Machine I'd say the demand is there.

I'm not seeing that controversy in that to be honest lol.

I think whilst TOS had well written stories, I feel Sir Patrick Stewart carried the show with his acting ability, far better than Shatner did in TOS.

I think also that the only other actor in any Trek series who could touch him is Avery Brooks. At least to me, both are the best Trek actors.

In all honestly given the amount of remakes around and being planned at the moment I'm completely indifferent to the idea of any show/movie being remade/rebooted since I'm so used and resigned to the formula now.

I'd be lying if I said if wouldn't watch a reboot if one was made. If it was crap I'd consider it expensive fanfiction and forget about it completely, if it was brilliant then I'd consider it an a/u canon of sorts.

I have no desire to see a reboot, but when has that stopped the studios? *shrug*

I find all the rebooting to be creatively bankrupt. I did enjoy ST09 for what it was, but no, I would not want to see TNG rebooted. I would far, far rather see another crew, on another ship, carrying Star Trek forward. Is it that hard to come up with another group of characters?

I agree with this. Star Trek has always been progressive and ahead of its time. It should move forward, not cannibalize past glories.

At this point in The Human Adventure, I had do go with the crazy choice.

Though who knows, in a few years I may lean more towards no.
