Which season ended with the best final moment?

I don't think picking up immediately after is the only way to continue the storyline, I understand how absurd that would be - especially with Jack's heart about to explode - but a few weeks later with Jack already on the evil German's guys trail? Anything beats a throwaway line partway through the season opener.

But it's just the way 24 rolls, they throw the audience a curveball without really knowing there they are going to take the story. I'm still watching so it's not that big a deal to me, I just wish they'd put a tiny bit more thought into some of that stuff before they actually did it.

Umm, that's not true... Seasons 3 and 6 ended with less of a cliffhanger than even season 4.

I thought David Palmer resigned at the end of season 3. I missed the entire second half of season 6 and have no desire to watch it in the future.
How is Palmer resigning any more of a cliffhanger than Jack faking his death and leaving his past life behind? Every season finale of every show leaves details to be followed up later. That does not make it a "cliffhanger".

It's a cliffhanger because the episode left me wanting to know immediately who is going to be the president next season, what is David Palmer's role going to be i.e. basically details about the next season. Basically Season 3's ending evoked an emotional response from me that would be indicative of a cliffhanger. Season 4's ending on the other hand left me with no such feeling. Jack was retiring to the sunset. It was a beautiful resolution with no real unresolved details that I wanted to know about immediately.

Season 1 by far.

Silent count down.

Teri killed.

The lovely montage of events with Teri from wat back at the begining of the day. Lots of emotional impact. Magnified by the knowledge that Teri was pregnant.

It may be blasphemy, but I'll vote for season six. The final scenes with Heller, Audrey, and Jack are about the only redeeming parts of that year outside of the first four episodes (and I'm not even as fond of those as most) and Alexander Siddig.

^I remember hearing the producers talk on the season 2 DVDs about how they tried to keep that plotline from being revealed as the finale since there were tons of extras involved - they filmed the scene as we saw it but then continued filming showing Palmer get up, say he was alright, then get into his limo and drive away. That way no one knew that they were ending it with a cliffhanger.

That's actually one of the extra scenes on the DVD, first time I saw it, I thought :wtf: and then I
