The Final Frontier is my favorite Trek movie.

I hate when people say stuff without explaining why!

On a message board, that's usually where you reply, "So why do you like Star Trek: TFF the best?", or something to that effect. ;)

I love this movie because even though it made missteps, it's heart was firmly in the right place. The best way to get this is to listen to the commentary on the DVD by Bill & Elizabeth Shatner. It's terrific the insights Bill has into how he was doing his movie. You find out that they were so hard pressed for time that things he wanted to change he couldn't, and then they ran out of money for FX shots, or FX shots were never put in place for the movie that were ordered.

The strongest tie for me is the Big Three. This movie has no problems building upon that friendship. I love the camping scenes the most, but the movie overall just exudes warmth and heart. I also think it truly tried to go where most Trek movies didn't. It felt like a classic episode. It didn't just have a ship fight with lots of pretty explosions, it actually tried to go somewhere unknown, to seek a real adventure. I think that William Shatner had a profound understanding of not only Trek, but of the characters that drive the series. I don't think any other movie tried as hard as this one.

Watch the DVD commentary sometime. You'll gain insight into how things worked as they did, and what Bill wanted to do but was constrained from doing. The movie still stands however, as it is, and for me there is no better movie than this one.

3 stars for me.
It's disjointed, but I still think it has some of the best character moments for the big three and that makes it not that bad for me.

Exactly...I'll take TFF over Nemesis any day of the week. Where as TTF had some good character moments, Nemesis had absolutely nothing. No humanity...subpar FX...just a total waste of time...

PS
I have TTF three stars as trek movie..two stars as a regular movie..

Oh....NEMESIS would get one star as a TREK movie...ZERO for a regular movie...

You did make me speachless, you convinced me to give it another chance and I'd rather not admit that someone changed my mind;)

I watched it again this morning, and I give it 1.5 stars (rounded to 2 for this poll). I rather enjoy the following scenes: the first campfire, the introduction to the three ambassadors, Emergency Landing Plan B, and the reception at the end. The rest of the movie alternated between boring and dumb, and it even managed to be both at once in some places.

J. Allen, the commentary may explain some intentions, but good intentions do not improve what we got. The movie must be judged for what it is, not what Shatner intended.

You truly are a true Christian man!! :)

2 Stars. There were a few good moments, but it was mostly a tedious mess. Lame plot, forced humor, poor graphics. Definitely the weak entry for the TOS movies.
