Rare Photos Special: Leonard Nimoy (1931-2015)

In honor of the truly brilliant and wonderful Leonard Nimoy, I went through all of the past articles as well as through my raw materials folders, and assembled a special double-plus edition so that everyone could look back with a smile.

I was fortunate enough to have met Leonard twice, through your standard fan encounters. The first occasion was 1998 at a book signing, promoting the "Alien Voices" line of audio books that he (and a number of other sci-fi and Star Trek actors) where part of. I was 13 or 14, and waited in line for a good 4 hours. It was worth it. When he came into the mall, you'd have thought it was any A-lister. A decade later I got to meet him again, seeing him and Bill Shatner on stage together at a convention just a few days before he'd be at SDCC announcing his participation and Zachary Quinto's casting in the 2009 film.

Thanks for taking the time and effort to do this. Some great shots there over the years. Thing that struck me was how often Mr Nimoy was smartly dressed.

Great collection of photos showing the different aspects of Leonard all through the years! Much gratitude for putting together this wonderful visual tribute to a really fine human being....

Thank you, Frontier. I was never blessed to meet Mr. Nimoy, although I always wanted. I respected that he not only played my favorite TOS character, but that he was a Renaissance Man... painter, photographer, writer, director, actor and so much more.

I just went back and had a look at these pictures again today. Glad I did - it made me feel better.

Yes, indeed. Thank you, kindly, for putting this together for us. It is much appreciated.

Thank You, so much for posting the rare photos of Leonard Nimoy. Your pictures shows such a great and loving man, actor, and much more. He is really going to be missed for many years to come. Your pictures will help to keep him in our memory.:)

How wonderful, these photos. I must say, its a rare celebrity passing that evokes much emotion from me, but Nimoy's hit me like a phaser on heavy stun. When someone's work is such a fundamental part of your childhood and the values through which you live...

If I may be so bold as to contribute one, a photo my dad took from my first ever convention. This was at the Palace of Auburn Hills outside Detroit, MI. Not sure the exact year, but I remember it vividly. They were both wonderful and funny and endearing on stage together.

(Not a plug for Twitter followers; I think this photo from February was my last tweet lol)

Because of Nimoy, Spock lives. It takes a rare person to create an icon.

Leonard was the final entry in the "In Memorium" tribute during the Emmy's tonight. Him as Spock from TOS saying "Live Long and Prosper." Credited as both Actor/Director.

Harve Bennett was in the middle, and they used a photo of him in the Captain's Chair with Shatner and Nimoy from TWOK.

Grace Lee Whitney, Yvonne Craig, Maurice Hurley, and anyone else we lost this year I've forgot where absent. Which is no surprise, as they often miss quite a few people. I believe Jimmy Doohan himself was omitted from such back in the day.
