Rapelay virtual rape game banned by Amazon

In Rapelay, gamers direct a character to sexually assault a mother and her two young daughters at an underground station, before raping any of a selection female characters.
Rapelay, which was released in 2006, encourages players to force the virtual woman they rape to have an abortion. If they are allowed to give birth the woman throws the player's character under a train, according to reviews of the game. It also has a feature allowing several players to team up against individual women.

:wtf::wtf:

I knew immediately that this was a Japanese game. Everybody knows the Japanese have weirder fetish games involving cartoons than anyone.

You did read my post, right? The point is obvious, and it's not that one.
My point was admittedly exaggerated. Still, far too often companies bow and pull objectionable material rather than simply saying "Don't like it? Don't buy it!". Its sickening. More so than this game.
I hope you'll use the same zeal to write your congressman telling them not to support the censorship of talk radio.

It's like saying hello in Japan. ;)

Lovely game.

Glad Amazon banned it.
Yes, censorship is cool.

Yup. Nothing wrong with a business taking responsibility for what it sells or does.
Which is still a form of censorship.

Bingo. :techman:

It's not just Japan.
:guffaw: That is lulzy.

I hope you'll use the same zeal to write your congressman telling them not to support the censorship of talk radio.
I would. I'm already pestering them about net neutrality though, so it might be pushing it to start in on that.

But it's a business. So if Starbucks refuses to sell a coffee where the beans are picked by child labor then they are bad?

Actually that doesn't even matter. A business decides what it wants to sell and that's that. It's no one elses business.

Sorry about not showing all the quotes but when I quoted your post it didn't display a lot of the quotes. Weird.

Specious, since no one is actually being harmed by this product.

That's true, but this is part of why I don;t much care for the current rating system for media, as stores can arbitrarily decide not to sell any above a certain rating. Limiting availability that way is a form of censorship.

I don't want a game where I can rape women.

I want a game where I can steal cars and run people over, or a game where I can silently assassinate people for points.

Y'know, normal games about normal things.

Glad Amazon banned it.
Glad for censorship? Hmm.

If it were the government, I'd be worried about censorship. I have no problem with Amazon's decision here. I doubt they'll lose much business over this (and I certainly hope they won't).

I will say that I guess people have a point in that murder in games is accepted while rape is not, but I tend to conform to society there.

Agreed. I wouldn't want the government to censor a game like this, because the next step could be to censor any game where you commit a crime, but selling this is totally Amazon's decision. If they don't want to sell this game it's their decision.

Yeah, a private business has the right to not cater to sick fucks.

At least the government isn't jumping in to tell the sick fucks what types of sick fucking games they can't play in the privacy of their own sick fucking dungeons.

whats next? games featuring child porn?

Could do. SCOTUS quashed the Child Pornography Prevention Act relating to virtual depictions of child sexuality on First Amendment grounds a while back. Still leaves obscenity grounds though.

Why would anyone want to put a game out like that?

Rape fantasies are reasonably common for both men and women. They're putting it out there because there's a market for such things.

It was only a matter of time before someone brought up child porn...

I oppose censorship in all forms.

While it is Amazon's rightful choice to self-censor what's sold on their site, I just wish they'd be a little more open-minded and less conscious of knee-jerk obscenity stompers.

What is sold on Amazon? I've only ever bought books from them. Do they sell hardcore pornography? BDSM paraphernalia? AO-rated games? Was this a game that was singled out after objections were raised, one of a class of games, or an oddity that wasn't in-line with existing policies?

Can't say I'm surprised that Amazon wouldn't stock such games, or that I object to their refusing to stock such games, it's certainly no more censorship than the MPAA is. Would be nice to know exactly how it went down though.

I don't know how knee-jerk reactionary they are. After all they did change their Christmas sale to a Holiday sale due to public reaction and then changed it back to Christmas sale due to more public reaction. I think they are simply reacting to their customers in a, well, knee jerk, ah, way.
