Ransom and the Equinox

I think there a Strange New Worlds story or two about Ransom, and there's a story in Distant Shores focusing on a couple of the Equinox survivors after they join Voyager's crew, but that's about it.

^that's too bad, I always found Ransom story interesting. How a Starship Captain loses his crew and spirals down.

I've always wanted toknow more about the Equinox crew. They went through so much and appeared to have more difficulties than Voyager.

There is also a novelization of the Equinox episodes. I haven't read it, but I don't think it covers anything that wasn't depicted in the show.

I'm kinda disappointed that more hasn't been done with them in the books. This is another one of those balls that the shows dropped that I've been hoping the books would pick up on.

Meh, the Equinox served its purpose to me. We know some of the background; any more is kind of as useless as what the silver blood Voyager was up to.

I was upset, however, that the Equinox crew who survived were never revisited. Them redeeming themselves to Janeway would have made interesting stories.

Yeh it would have been good to have revisited the equinox crew as semi regulars. I read the novel ages ago it has a little more backstory. They tried communication didnt think they were any more sentinent than fish but had doubts. It was a lot of small steps to what they did.

Ya I read the novel too and in it they tried to talk to the aliens but I believe Ransom told Janeway it was like trying to talk to a cat

Yeah, I should have been more specific, because I was reffering to after they joined Voyager. It just seems like they set up a great situation that could have lead to some very interesting characters and situations, but nothing else was ever really done with it.

Yeh I was agreeing seeing more of them on the Voyager crew was a wasted oppourtunity.

Back to the book what would Janeway do if they were the equivalent of cats in inteligence.

Nothing. Nothing wrong with eating a cat if your starving to death, just as nothing wrong with using these aliens to try and power ur ship

There seems to me to be a quantitative moral distinction between eating cats to survive, and throwing living cats into a coal engine to power your ship in order to get back home.

Really? We use animals for more than just eating. Besides if they were just animals they were providing power to the ship to let them live.

what's the difference? we eat animals to power our bodies, it's not like they (Ransom and crew) did it to the aliens while the were alive. They used there bodies once they were dead

^But it was established that the aliens were sapient, wasn't it? So it's not like this is open to debate.

Besides, everyone knows that cats are far more intelligent than humans. They cleverly manipulated us into creating civilization so that we could invent windowsills and can openers for their convenience.

Weren't they killing the aliens in order to use their bodies for fuel? I got the impression that the equinox crew really didn't care if they were sapient or not.

It has been a while since I have seen the episode.

Equinox was a 2 part to remember, really well written . would have been nice to have a book or something like that about it.
