Rank all the Star Trek movies

Always interested seeing how my tastes change

TWOK
ST09
TSFS
TVH
TMP
FC
TUC
TFF
GEN
NEM
INS

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I thought it would be better to add to an already existing thread than start my own.

Here is my ranking of the Trek films from best to worst:

1. FC
2. TUC
3. TVH
4. TMP
5. GEN
6. TFF
7. ST09
8. NEM
9. INS
10. TSFS
11. TWOK

I'm sure a lot of people will be surprised to see TWOK at the bottom of my list. I don't think it's a bad film by any means. In fact, I liked all of the films to different extents, but for some reason TWOK is the least exciting for me. I like Khan as a villain, but he isn't given enough screen time for my taste. I also find the whole Genesis plot device to be pretty silly (a device that takes desolate planets and gives them new life? Seriously?). Also, the movie seems to drag at times, and not in a good way like in TMP where the slower pace allows you to take in everything that you see and really make you feel like you are right there.
Anyway, I'm not trying to bash Khan, I just thought I should explain why I ranked it so low.

1. TMP(Director's Edition)
2. TWOK
3. TUC
4. FC
5. TVH
6. GEN
7. TSFS
8. INS
9. TFF
10. NEM

1. Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
2. Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
3. Star Trek: First Contact
4. Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
5. Star Trek (2009)
6. Star Trek III: The Search for Spock
7. Star Trek: Nemesis
8. Star Trek: The Motion Picture
9. Star Trek: Generations
10. Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
11. Star Trek: Insurrection

1. Star Trek 09-Credit due for a new producer who made ST feel like well...ST again. Adventure, scale, cache', all missing from previous Trek movies. If all that's not enough, it's writing brought some small development to characters that basically didn't change much in the original series, executed well enough to be nominated for a Hugo, Nebula, Writers Guild Award, a trifecta not accomplished by any other Trek movie.

2. Wrath of Khan- Previously the best ST movie. Good characterization, and a movie that makes up for an underwritten bad guy role with terrific performances by everybody! Still contains the best space battle ever.

3. First Contact-Admittedly, not a perfect film, and not the best Borg story by a long shot but it also offered a multi-leveled formula for success: history, time-travel, almost elemental enemies, and something rarely seen..a personal vendetta for Picard.

4. Voyage Home-Not completely coherent but a fun movie with no significant strikes against it. Did I mention fun?

5. Nemesis-Again, not a perfect movie, that I'd have re-written myself somewhat, but it's a major improvement in scale and pace over the previous STNG movie as well as the recent TOS ones.

6. STMMP-DE- Ok here is where I change my mind occasionally..sometimes STIII feels more statisfying as a movie, but the new DE is an improvement over the original...its a tighter movie. Hard to beat for FX and music (both nominated for Oscars)the story feels slim, but the philosophy behind it wins the day.

7. STIII- So STTMP improves upon TOS with a story that takes AI seriously, and tried to include Spock in that as a personal link...STIII again uses Spock but in a story whose philosophy is bizarre and very un-Treklike...postulating souls that come back to life...must have had theists as well as non-theists perplexed in it's day (I was 14 and just knew I liked Spock being alive). There are good moments and ILM does a great job on a small budget (one that used fewer FX than many made-for-tv movies, as well as STNG 3 yrs later). Ultimately it can't compete with some ofthe better Trek movies.

8. Undiscovered Country-Marginally better than #9 on my list. Not a movie that withstands the test of time well.

9. Insurrection- Underrated, certainly not a terrible movie. Lacks scale and a sense of urgency.Gains points for a plot that's still debated amongst fans today.

10. Generations- A complete mess of a script. The most inconsistent of all stories. It's few pluses can't make up for a scattershot mis-fire of a movie.

11. Final frontier- The movie that shall not be named! Though I am naming it bad. Problems begin at the start of a poor concept, terrible dialogue, dumb humor, horrible FX, old actors looking tired. This is what happens when the studio doesn't throw out a clearly horrific script...possibly because of the success of STIV and STNG.

1. Wok/TUC - I really can't chose between the two, and they both make up the greatest moment the movies ever had.

2. TMP - Cut out all that ridiculously overblown cinematography, and you have the most massive and intriguing Trek movie of them all.

3. TVH -Really funny and entertaining, but not a wholly serious installment.

4. FC - It is a good movie, but I've always had a problem with The Borg in it due to the Borg Queen, and the ridiculousness of The Borg's plan (or lack thereof.) I also think it needs some gutting as a result.

5. TSFS - It's a dull, dated movie, but it's an important link between WoK and TUC, therefore it's worth it in the end, and has a good payoff.

6. INS - I think it had the fewest problems of the TNG movies, and the best directing, but it's still not spectacular. I enjoy it the most out of the TNG movies though.

And the last three are tied at DEAD LAST.

As for Star Trek, I liked it, but only in the sense that I found TVH entertaining and novel, but it's not as memorable and more of a shallow tribute. I don't know where to rank it either, it's more of a disconnected extra to me.

I cannot rank them because I feel some movies are just as good as another so my number 5 may be just as good as number 9. I like to give them letter grades.

In chronological order.

The Motion Picture B+
Wrath of Khan A+
Search for Spock B
The Voyage Home A+
The Final Frontier C
The Undiscovered Country A
Generations B-
First Contact A
Insurrection B-
Nemesis C
Star Trek A+

I do like all the movies though some are better than others.

Today it's something like:

Excellent
Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country
Star Trek (2009)
Star Trek: First Contact

Pretty Good
Star Trek: The Motion Picture
Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Star Trek III: The Search For Spock

Alright
Star Trek: Generations
Star Trek: Insurrection

Absolutely feckin' terrible
Star Trek V: The Final Frontier
Star Trek: Nemesis

As a film, nu-Star Trek blows the rest away in sheer spectacle, and big screen fun. It was easily the best Trek film I saw at the cinema, which isn't hard when I only saw INS and NEW beforehand. In terms of nerdy Trek rankings, I'd have it just in my top three.

1. The Wrath of Khan
2. The Voyage Home
3. Star Trek (2009)
4. First Contact
5. The Undiscovered Country
6. The Motion Picture (Director's Cut)
7. The Search for Spock
8. Generations
9. Nemesis
10. Final Frontier
11. Insurrection

Rank them? Ooookay...

"Hey, all the Star Trek movies. You're so fat, when you have sex, your lover has to roll you in flour and look for the wet spot."

Oh, not that kind of ranking. Sorry.

The Search for Spock
The Wrath of Khan
The Motion Picture
The Undiscovered Country
Nemesis
The Final Frontier
Generations
First Contact
Star Trek
Insurrection
The Voyage Home

1) Trek 09
2) Tie - FC and TMP
4) Insurrection
5) Generations
6) Nemesis
7) WOK
8) SFS

100) Tie - TVH, TUC

1,000,000) TFF (I can't express how much I hate this movie).

This may change in the future but hasn't for the past few years.

1. The Motion Picture (any edition)
2. The Wrath of Khan (any edition)
3. The Search for Spock
4. The Undiscovered Country
5. First Contact
6. Insurrection
7. The Final Frontier
8. The Voyage Home
9. Nemesis
10. Star Trek 2009
11. Generations

1- Star Trek (2009; The Future Begins)...great, fast-paced, action packed.
2- The Wrath of Khan...Best written, directed, and acted of the movies.
3- First Contact...........Good story, a TNG fan favorite.

4- The Undiscovered Country....Klingons? Again? Still watchable & fun.
5- The Search for Spock..........Klingons? Again? Still watchable & fun.
6- Insurrection.......................Pretty okay, slow in parts.
7- Nemesis............................One movie, 2 pairs of evil twins...Really?

8- Generations.......................barely watchable (but I will). Was rushed so
quickly they had to re-shoot the ending with
the same result: Kirk dies. Kirk. Really?
9- The Voyage Home...............Were they just completely out of story
ideas? "Save the Whales"? Star Trek? Really?
10- The Motion Picture............Barely watchable. Script, terrible. Acting, terrible.
Costumes, terrible. Directing, terrible.
11- The Final Frontier..............God at the center of the galaxy. Please let me
know if there is any scene in this lump that is
worth re-watching.

Probably overly critical on some... check my thread here...
