Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

America has a centrist-to-center-right party and a far-right party both owned and controlled by billionaire donors.
The Democrats are an extreme far left party, even compared to the most left wing minor party in Australia.

If the alternative to Trump was a party that was soft on crime, in favor of illegal immigration, in favor of gender ideology and supported institutional racism, I don't blame Americans for thinking that Trump was the lesser evil in the 2024 election. We now know he isn't, but no one thought he was going to start a war at the time.

This is dubious. The democrats are in no way "in favor of illegal immigration" or "soft on crime." I remember Kamala's making campaign ads emphasizing her harsh border policies, and I remember when Obama was called Deporter-in-Chief. I can't believe I have to defend the democrats.

Where do you get your information on USA issues? it seems absurdly out of touch.

What political positions do you think are "Far-Left"?

Agreed. I don't see how the Democrats could be considered "Centrist" due to some of the positions they hold, however I don't use the "left" or "right" labeling that a lot of others do because both of them are owned by the same billionaire class. We as Americans have more in common with each other than our ruling class, and that's the defining difference.

Trump was my preferred option for the 2024 election. He had some good ideas - the problem is, he went back on most of them and started a war, while also causing the cost of living to go up for average people.

They promise you no new wars, but as always the campaign promises are lies (or conveniently out of reach.) This is so called democracy.
Exactly. Both Republican and Democrat Presidents (at least in the 21st Century) when in office, always bomb innocent people in other countries and do disastrous/wasteful interventions. Bush did it with Iraq. Obama did it with Libya. Trump is doing it with Iran.

Both parties are too similar to each other and pretty much share the same foreign policy. No matter who you vote for, they are going to go to war in the Middle East it seems.

Of the Democrats I see as admirable figures would be Paul Wellstone, Howard Dean, and Dennis Kucinich. Being Anti-War is a position I am proud to hold.

Given the current political backdrop and the war in Iran, I'm so happy I discovered Jeeves stories this year. Those stories have been a bright spot in an otherwise depressing world.

The Democratic Party is liberal friendly centrist. Bernie Sanders is much more "left" and socialist than the Democrats. The Republican Party is fascist.

Compared to most democracies in the world, the mainstream Democratic Party is on the right; pretty much only in America would they be considered “the left”, and by no stretch of the imagination are they “far-left”. (There are exceptions within the party, like the Social Democrat wing, who are on the left, but they don’t make up the main part of the party.)

It’s always so ridiculous to hear the Republicans rant about the “far-left”… Dudes, you barely have a “left” at all in your system.

(Putting on the mod hat for a second… if many of you would like to have an ongoing political discussion, I think I could spin it off into its own thread, so that it doesn’t overwhelm the “Random Thoughts” thread. I don’t know for sure if it is technically possible, but I would try to split it at @MurphyCooper ’s post where they shared their thoughts on American politics as an American, and then include all the subsequent ones from there that are follow-ups to it. But if everyone’s said all they have to say, then there’s not much sense splitting it. Let me know.)

I've said pretty much all I have to say on that. It wasn't my intention to spark a debate or large discussion that could overwhelm this thread, so I'd prefer we just leave it at that and move along.

I don't want to get into the habit of discussing politics here all the time.
