Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

I've never watched a christian movie, except the ones I was semi forced to as when I was part of a youth group many moons ago. Some of those are super funny though because they are supposed to be showing some message but one I remember the camera really liked this actress and her bum and they had lots of scenes of her bum as she was walking. It was even funny at the time because people were commenting about it during the film
My personal favorite is Fireproof, and not just because of my username. As a long time person who believes in sacrificial love and service the firefighting scenes hit as hard as any messaging scenes.

That is cool

What made the movie I was watching funny was it was all about not having sex before marriage so all the scenes of her bum gave people the other idea instead, well the males in the audience and some females.

There's Christian-themed movie (The Ten Commandments, Ben-Hur, even The Prince of Egypt), and then there's the more recent faith-based "genre" of Pure Flix, Kirk Cameron and Kevin Sorbo garbage. They're not good and they don't have to be because there's a captive audience that will throw money at them and give them all 10/10 scores because they reinforce their beliefs even though they completely fail as entertainment.

Ouch 🤕

Sorry, didn't mean to attack you. But since you're on a site called TrekBBS, I'm assuming you don't view non-Christian or secular media as demonic.
Why would I?

Secular media is media, nothing related to any spiritual dimension. I don't watch horror movies because I find them stupid and tropey and don't care to be scared, not because it's demonic.

I enjoy what I enjoy, and mass entertainment is not a spiritual yard stick.

My new car has this thing where, if you're stopped at a traffic light or in traffic or something like that, it shuts off the engine. Then when you press the accelerator again, it turns it back on.

I appreciate what it's trying to do, but it still freaks me the fuck out!

A lot of new cars do that but I wonder what the failure rate is for that if it doesn't turn on again

This makes me glad I'm working with my beater 07' Toyota Corolla. Can only imagine the paranoia this fuels.

I'm a Christian and I also love Trek. I don't think religion has been particularly bashed in any Trek episode or film, and I certainly don't think Trek is "demonic".

I can love God AND Trek. It's not either-or!
What about DS9? It portrayed religion in a negative light imo

That would annoy me so hard

During Christmas I received a few of those scam texts that claim they can't deliver my package because the zip code is wrong or the address is incomplete.... yet somehow they know my cell phone number? Enough people must fall for it otherwise they wouldn't keep doing it. But they are obviously fake on so many basic levels, such as the extremely long web address they want me to go to.

Probably works on a lot of older people who didn't grow up on electronics and don't understand it like my dad, who when he wants me to buy him something off a website, instead of sending me the URL he takes a picture of the item and I have to search the website to find it.

I have a conundrum: my negative experience with working made me loathe work, working and finding a job. I have on and off furlough since January 2021, I did the logical choice and tried to apply to a different job, no dice. So I tried job coaches and such, they were all incompetent.

BUT my new government is going to raise the minimum amount of years to qualify for a minimum pension, I'm going to get less pension AND my choice of working part-time is going to screw me over because the days that I didn't work are not going to be added to my pension which means I'm need to work even longer!

I going to sit together with a financial advisor to see which is the best option financially, currently I have my sick pay and disability income and it's such a relief not worrying about my income when I was still working but on furlough. I'm going to make an appointment tomorrow

I never got that vibe.

DS9 definitely treated the Bajoran faith with respect, and I don't think it slammed any other religion either.

Heck, I wasn't even offended by TNG's "Who Watches The Watchers". Picard wasn't telling the Mintakans not to worship ANY god, just not him specifically.

And even if he had been? It's just a TV show. My faith is not affected by anything they say. At the end of the day I'm still the same. Whatever they feel like saying about religion, I can handle it.

My Jeep has that feature — you get used to it, although the implementation of it varies from vehicle make or brand. The Jeep version is very ‘aggressive’ - as soon as you stop at a light, the engine turns off.

On the flip side, though, it’s just as quick… the engine is back on before my foot has finished moving from the brake to the accelerator pedal (Yes, it’s an automatic…*ugh*). I’ve never had an issue of it not working over the 7 years I’ve had the Jeep.

So, all in all, I don’t see it as much of an issue. I do know a lot of other Wrangler owners don’t like it, so they make smashing the on/off switch for the ‘Auto On/Off’ system part of their startup routine.

Does it really save any appreciable amount or reduce emissions? Eh, maybe a cupful over the life of the vehicle. YMMV (pun intended).

Cheers,
-CM-

It still felt like Gul Dukat was supposed to be Jim Jones and Kai Winn a zealot

I read the 'left behind' series about 15 years ago, all parts, simply out of a morbid fascination and because they were so hilariously badly written in my opinion.

I was raised in a church that subscribed to such an interpretation of apocalyptic events 100% . I no longer believe in things that way, but even if I did, I probably still would have come to the same conclusion regarding those books. I can only guess they're so popular because of the same factor you describe.

I love the Left Behind novels. One of these days I should get around to re-reading them. I have never seen the film version, but from what I'm told, I'm not missing much.

That said, they don't exactly align with my own personal faith...

The Left Behind novels are what you would call "dispensational premillenialism." Meaning: According to them, you'll have warning signs, then the Rapture, then a thousand years will pass, then the final end of all things. I am a Lutheran, and we are "amillienialist" - meaning, we have absolutely NO idea when the Rapture will happen, but when it does, that's it. No thousand years. That's the END.

But I don't care. I enjoy them strictly for their entertainment value.
