Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

About to take a trip to Germany for the Oktoberfest. So starting next Friday, I get to spend like a day and a half in the air.

Fortunately, not only did I not get jet lag the last time I did this (at least not going out there...I did have it when I came back home), but I was able to sleep through most of the flight. I hope I can do that again!

What is with all the Texans moving to Western Washington?
Ever since summer started, the store is averaging one vehicle/family from Texas each week.
Today alone saw three customers bring in their vehicles who just moved to the Puget Sound from Texas.

Because it was 102 today, that's why. In Washington state, it will be, what, 65?

I have a Mac that's seven years old and won't go past OS 13.7. OS 15 just came out. How much of a concern is it not to be able to receive OS updates anymore? Do I need to think about getting a new computer?

So I’m in the middle of Berlin, in Potsdamer Platz (which is really, really cool, BTW) and I hear what appears to be a German polka version of “Get Down On It”.

My mom and I have each now had something kinda creepy happen to us. While we were out shopping in a physical store we've stopped to look at stuff, and then a day or two later an add for that thing popped up online. In both situations we only looked at it in the store, we never looked them up online anywhere. Once would just be a funny story, but for it to happen twice in a few days is getting creepy.
This makes it feel like they're somehow tracking us in the stores to see what we're looking at, and using that for adds now.

Location based ads is a thing. It's why I adjust my location sharing from time to time. Probably Google selling data now.

My life is so boring.
I would happily be bored.

This weekend I helped my wife and run a raffle at farmer's market, helped out my sister-in-law who ended up going to the ER (twice!). Helped haul trash for family, and move items around. Planned to buy a new shed and have it delivered.

Work involves driving around right now to different schools for intakes.

Plus disciplinary action needing to be administered to staff.

If there are bored people out there I'd gladly trade!

I always turn off the location tracking on my phone, and I'm not sure if my mom's flip phone even has GPS. And it's not about the location, it's the fact that the adds were for the exact items we looked at but then put back on the shelf without buying. So the only way anyone could know about it was if they were watching us while we were shopping.

So I’m sitting here in the Deutsche Bahn lounge at Berlin Hauptbahnhof, with my T-shirt and sneakers, and I’m like, I am SO underdressed for this place. If not the entire city of Berlin.

Now don’t get me wrong, I love Berlin. I had a great time here. But I am nowhere even close to cool enough for this city. If cities were Hitchhiker’s Guide characters, Berlin would be Zaphod Beeblebrox. I’m more like Arthur Dent.

It’ll be a lot easier when I get to Munich. I might actually fit in there.

Got my car serviced today. Standard Oil Change and I've been hearing a slight squeal on the breaks which I hope they fixed. They said it looked really good and they cleaned the breaks so hopefully that makes a difference.

My weird experiences with hotels continues:

At my hotel in Munich (a Holiday Inn) you have to put in your key card to turn on the damn lights! Now who does that?

Not that I’m really complaining. As I said, it’s just weird. And I absolutely love Munich. It’s a ton of fun. As far as HHGTTG goes, Munich would be…Ford Prefect.

Today was my day off. Checked off a lot of errands and chores.

Got up early to water the yard (and pet neighbor's dog).

Went to PetSmart to stock up on Junior's food.

Took a box of clothes to Goodwill.

Picked up a few things at the grocery store.

Went to Home Depot to get two plants to replace the ones that died in the to last hurricane.

Planted them in the front yard & watered them.

Now my tired butt is in the recliner, watching Kamala Harris deliver a very good speech on CNN.
