We should stop thinking that we can pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. We should assume that luck plays a much bigger role than we’d like to admit. And then we should assume people need help not because they’re lazy but because of unlucky circumstances. So we should stop being optimistic? Stop believing we can change and become better and model better behaviors?
That doesn't change optimistic outlooks though. It's balance between optimism and pragmatism. Saying "You're powerless to chance" is not helpful because there are things in your control. They may be more limited but that doesn't make us completely helpless. That's why community is so important, why humans are social creatures. We should stop thinking that we can pull ourselves up by our bootstraps. We should assume that luck plays a much bigger role than we’d like to admit. And then we should assume people need help not because they’re lazy but because of unlucky circumstances.
As long as we overestimate how much control we have, we will continue to hold back on helping people that need it.

When I was in high school, we played lawn darts at a party and a guy ended up in the ER with one in his leg. He kinda deserved it, but...Lawn darts is kinda' like men BBQin', where's the fun if you don't have don't a bit of danger?
I think you can only find that game in a garage/estate sale nowadays and was banned. But I've played it, sometimes you you had too be quick 'on your feet'.
There’s a reason more guys are born than women. They don’t last. When I was in high school, we played lawn darts at a party and a guy ended up in the ER with one in his leg. He kinda deserved it, but...![]()
Well, it was either that or a multiparagraph rant, with videos, about how horrible the dairy industry is, I figured it was the better option.I don't do that when you talk about meatless hamburgers.(well, maybe in private)
I think I have seen a new version of it that's available, but it's got much more blunt tips on the darts now.Lawn darts is kinda' like men BBQin', where's the fun if you don't have don't a bit of danger?

Watching the Magicians.
I love how the main character Quentin is a total basket case. There's an episode, where he rants about being a total wreck despite learning he has magic. He's great. This is one of those cases, where the TV show surpasses the original material.
I honestly have to say I didn't like the show when I saw the first couple of episodes but on a whim bought the DVDs of the full series and now love it
It's really goes off the deep end in season two, but if you can get passed the insanity, it's actually really good. It's like Breaking Bad. Once you get past his first kill and the scenes that follow, the show is fantastic.
I absolutely love The Magicians, it's one of my all time favorite shows.Watching the Magicians.

I think it might be under the settings and you select an option to have content customize to you.Is it possible to see less "suggested for you" on Facebook? I'm getting 5-6 of them in a row. I downloaded an ad blocker extension but that only blocks the ads, not the suggestions.
