The problem is that the writers get this fodder to write, and the owners make more money in the long run. And the fans still watch because.

I think that's my biggest frustration is that fans still watch. I don't know if it's because the idea of going without is unimaginable, or just don't think about. I don't know. Is it ignorance of the problems?
It’s a masculinity issue. Some guys define their masculinity by the sports they watch. It defines them. This is similar to other fandoms. But it ties more closely with men trying to be what they think the definition of men is to other men. I personally don’t get it.
I’ve also met guys that intentionally don’t read because reading somehow makes them less masculine. I know at least two guys in my hiking group that think this way. I don’t get it either.

I work in data science and see behaviors in the data that are far from rational. We’re basically in a game of monopoly. And people make decisions that make them worse players in the game.
Well, we are not rational beings. We are highly emotional and social beings who need validation of those emotions. If we don't get them from trusted supports we will seek them elsewhere.
Hmmm...I think I answered my own frustration.

I was at the WW2 museum in New Orleans this morning. I’d been there before but one detail that I picked up on that I hadn’t before.
The soldiers getting ready to invade Japan had seen soldiers and civilians commit suicide rather than be captured. The Emperor had released a statement saying 100 million people would win together or die tomorrow.
Those soldiers really believed they were about to be asked to commit genocide.

My mom enjoys studying WW2 history a bit and we were talking about that. It is a detail that just is missed when you look at it, not just from a military standpoint, but a human one. You had a whole different cultural perspective that was going to result in prolonged warfare and basically slaughtering an entire nation. And the Pacific campaign had already shown the allies how entrenched that warfare could be.

You really have to sell it since it’s not at all rational. What I find interesting is that we basically have kids fighting our wars. And the brain doesn’t fully develop until 25.

My wife and I were watching the local news this morning and there were the usual July 4th "be careful with fireworks" stories, etc. I was scrolling through my FB feed and laughed a meme with George Washington on his horse telling England to "enjoy your workday today." My wife said she thought most people would have the day off today there, wouldn't they? I asked her why? They lost. This isn't a holiday for them. Which then sparked a discussion about whether or not other countries have a celebration on the 4th. So we googled it and I shit thee not, there are several July 4th celebrations in other nations.
