Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Is credit card score a sham? Mine dropped 36 points because my usage increased 5% this month. It tells me over 30% usage is bad, so I go to see what my usage is...... and it's at 11%.

Credit scores go up and down for various reasons and can change month per month. It can be a change in overall interest rates, a change in how much you're charging, a missed or late bill payment, how many other loans you have outstanding--how much debt you carry month to month, how many other agencies are checking your credit for various reasons.....damn near anything. It doesn't mean much in the short term, unless you're in the process of making a major purchase, like a new house. If you are concerned, many banks or credit cards provide a credit monitoring service for free and most don't affect your credit.

It's not a big deal for me. It's just strange how it keeps fluctuating from good to excellent and back to good when I'm not doing anything different.

The one thing I really don't get with credit scores is why people looking at it makes it go down. Why is it bad that are checking it?

I just found out that actor Brad Johnson, whose breakthrough movies (Always, Flight of the Intruder) were also the peak of his career, died from COVID complications earlier this year. He was 62.

Hi, it's been a while since I've been here. But I recall (I think) someone here, perhaps an elder who lived in a nursing home, was feeling lonely or isolated, and some other members offered to send them a card or keep in touch. Does anyone know if that person is okay? Thanks

IIRC, that was Ghost07, correct? I think it was @rhubarbodendron who had set up the card drive, so maybe she would know?

It’s not every day that you find yourself in an airport whose name sounds like a Vulcan admiral from DS9. :vulcan:
It's not every day that you find yourself taking a diabetes-control medication that sounds like a fragrance or a brand of designer jeans.

it's not every day that you drink some 'austrian' beer that sounds like ... well

a hell is a pale lager and they changed the name of that village since because some yankees always stole the signs (it's spelled with two Gs now) and the beer actually was never brewed there either (it is from germany) but the name would have been typical if it were

Why is she so pretty?
Genetics, makeup, and lighting. Don't compare yourself to people you see on TV - they have professionals to help them look like that.

Broiling in a drought-ridden urban hell.
Ditto! I bloody hate summer.

That's a myth. But the mechanisms are somewhat arcane.

I think your credit score DOES take a hit when a company does a hard credit check on you. But that's not the same as just looking at your credit score (many banks let you do that for free).

I still can't get over how cold it was when I was in Seattle last week. Froze my ass off the whole time. There were some games I had four layers of clothing on! Meanwhile it's in the 90's here at home. Go figure.

Quickly skimming Google about it, it seems when you check it yourself that is called a soft check and doesn't affect it. If some would be creditor checks it that is a hard check and causes it to change, (stupid.)

isn't that - to quote a former attorney general of yours - just bullshit? if i'm going to buy 6 'homes' and four cars for each of those i get thirty hard checks and my rating goes through the bottom besides my paying for all of that with cash out of a briefcase.

this sucks!

... eta: i have no problem with your fbi eyeing my briefcase because they think who pays cash your place needs to be some sort of [insert the bad guy of the week here]

If two men and a boy living together is "Two and a half men", would two men and two boys be "three men"? Also, when the boy hits adolescence, should he be upgraded to three-quarters of a man?

Well maybe :) But they'd all be whole men if they were all holding a pork bun
