Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

How about one of the horse farms, that IIRC, you live near? You could bike to work.
I haven't seen anything from them about needing help. I did try look for ranch/farm jobs in general recently, on the job sites, and one that specializes just in farm/ranch jobs, but nothing came up near me.
But, mucking out stalls ain't much fun, though it does "smell" like roses.
The smell doesn't bother me, and it still sounds better than dealing with people.

I'm liking what I see with Star Trek: Prodigy, but I gotta admit...at my age, I feel just a tad "foreign" about watching a show on Nickelodeon...

Yeah, yeah, I know it's not just a show for kids, just still kind of weird.

I feel the same way, I feel like it has a lot less for adults than something like Pixar movies or Animaniacs.

I severely overestimated the number of trick-or-treaters I would have this year, based on last year's numbers. I know last year was a Saturday, and that it's still a pandemic. It just seems a little odd that numbers would have been so far up last year when we didn't have any vaccines, and people were actively encouraged to stay home, but then down so precipitously when vaccines are plentiful and restrictions have been lessened. (Although since kids are back in school in-person, maybe parents are trying to reduce exposure to any illnesses, since cold-like symptoms will get you sent home?)

And can't even take the leftovers into the office this year. Guess I'll be eating little chocolate bars for months. (Don't get me wrong, I love chocolate bars, but they shouldn't really be part of my diet... :sigh:)

That's why you only buy Halloween candy that you like in case you get stuck with it.

I usually get what I like, and then leave the outside lights off.

I ventured out at 7pm to gas the car up for my wife and it seemed there were a fair number of people out. There were some that were setup outside on the driveway handing out the goodies but didn't seem as many as last year.

Don’t worry too much about that Harley. Kids today don’t know what a hole saw is.

I left my beater’s doors unlocked. Glass is expensive. Wiring less so. All one kid did was get it to where my key wouldn’t crank it either.

The joys of the new digital world.

I’ll take a snowy screen over:
‘ip…op…bu…wha——NO SIGNAL

If I want image fragmentation, I’ll get a damn jigsaw puzzle.

I miss tube televisions and the old analog broadcast. I don’t miss having to hold the rabbit ears and having the image dim. I can almost believe dousing due to that.

Tube televisions were used as a rather unreliable tornado detector once. It is thought the strongest twisters generated ‘sferics

The “Weller Method” was to turn the screen dark and turn to channel 2….which is, what 55 megacycles and close to what lightning and tornadoes generate. Largely discredited. Sterling Colegate who inherited the toothpaste fortune tried to shoot a rocket from his plane into a tornado to prove Bernard Vonnegut’s theory on such matters

I understand the Joplin tornado was 2 km from a station in the Earthscope Transportable Array…where it did pick up a seismic signal of 0.01 to 0.03 Hz….per Anne Valovcin.

Geophysical Research Letters / Vol 44 / Issue 20.

Twisters show up on infrasound often.

Working from home, I had to stop using my Apple Magic Mouse because the slightest movement can be registered as a scroll-zoom, making everything a pain in the butt (and all those sites that tell you how to temper this movement, it doesn't work). If you use a Magic Mouse, go to an interactive map and you'll see what I mean.

So I bought a basic wired mouse with a scroll wheel, and apparently the "natural" scroll wheel direction is for up to go down and down to go up? That was awkward as hell for me. I had to unclick that "natural" box to make down down and up up.

My neighborhood never has trick-or-treaters. Usually everyone keeps their porch lights off and it becomes extremely dark. Yet somehow this Halloween there were a lot of loud kids outside going from house to house.

It's the same in my neighborhood, we seem to have a fair amount of kids around, but very few of them come down our street. We don't pass out candy, but I still keep and ear and eye out to see how many kids are out, and I only heard people outside twice, and I think that might have just been our neighbors leaving and coming home.

OR, do what I do, and buy candy you *don't* like so you aren't tempted to eat it! :D

We did the same as last year - left out a bowl with candy and checked to refill it every so often. We had kids, but I have no idea how many. There are a fair number in my neighborhood.

For me, despite vowing to never be stuck again with candy that I won't eat, we decided to buy a bag since I foolishly thought this would be the year. Nope. Much like the last several, not a one showed up. Halloween has really gone down the tubes at least where we live and I thought just maybe Trick or Treaters would make a come-back, especially after 2020 and all the canceled events and cabin fever. Since I'm obviously no longer a kid and our kids are grown, staying home and giving it out is the only direct way to participate in the holiday anymore, but I guess that's a thing of the past as well.

At least we got rid of the bag by the wife taking it to work and letting her co-workers tear it apart, so I at least wouldn't have to find it stashed at the back of some cabinet several months later, all stale and mocking me.

I saw a couple posts about it online, one was Wil Wheaton talking about this Daily Beast post on his Instagram. Oh, and I forgot the second half of it, once they didn't show up earlier today, they said that the Kennedys and a whole bunch of other dead other celebrities are supposed to show up a Rolling Stones concert tonight.

Just when you think people can't get any dumber, hundreds of QAnon followers showed up in Dallas today waiting for JFK and JFK Jr. to arrive.
They are waiting on the grassy knoll for JFK Jr, who was killed in a plane crash in 1999, to appear and Trump would be reinstated as president with JFK Jr. as his vice president. Trump would then step down with JFK Jr. assuming the presidency and naming Michael Flynn as his vice president. Trump would "most likely" become king of kings (who knows what the hell that means).

Granted, even among the QAnon crazies, this is too far-out. The organizer of the QAnon For God & Country convention in October said this made them "look absolutely insane."
