I know what you mean. I don't know about your case, but I've had discussions with folks with no camera around, then something we had talked about popped up on Facebook. I figured there may be some kind of algorithm that may figure out what kind of things I might be interested, and it may be psychological as well..

It could legitimately be confirmation bias, but I think "Zoom has made a deal with Facebook to run speech recognition to do market research" is oddly plausible.

That is the first I've heard of this? How do they do this?

It was the first I heard of it too. So how did I find out? I checked... Google. :shifty: (Ironic, I know.)

I'm a big proponent of online privacy and companies not spying on us, but in this case, the solution seems rather clear... don't buy the new Nest Hub. Or if you do, don't put it in your bedroom. At least they are telling you up front about it, and if you don't want to have any part of that, you don't have to. There are a lot worse privacy issues out there to be concerned about.

Call me old-fashioned, but I ain't the type of guy that needs to "talk" to my garage door or my refrigerator.

What? They wanta know how many ice cubes I use? F' that.

Oh I agree with the sentiment, I wouldn't buy anything like a nest hub or an Alexa, as fun as they seem it's just a bit much having that little plastic spy sitting around listening. I even disabled cortana from my PC because of her microphones.

I got my wife an Alexa, which then meant I had to upgrade the TV system remote to a Harmony Hub. We mostly use Alexa to now to control the TV, which makes us to lazy to reach for the remote now.
Alexa, turn on the TV.
Alexa, mute the TV.
Alexa, turn to channel 7 on DirecTV.
Alexa, where's the damn remote?

Now They Gotcha...sucker

I saw some ants on one of my houseplants that sits in the window. I took it outside and yanked the plant out of the pot and YIKES! It was FULL of ants and they ran riot up my hands to my arms and I did the electric ant watusi dance, scraping off as many ants as I could see. That was an hour ago and I am still feeling itches all over.

Ouchies I know that feeling.

For the people with Alexa have you tried the star trek stuff with Alexa. You should try some star trek lines, like "fire photon torpedoes" and see her responses.

, like :censored:

You would have to tie me down to allow Alexa to gain control of mine, it would be similar to letting Pandora outta...
alexa has a setting to adress it as 'computer' - would that help?

no, i don't have one either - i loath amazon

I got kinda semi-lost on my bike ride today, and according to Google Earth, by the time I got home I had gone over 9.5 miles, which is the farthest I've gone without a break. I rode to a park to other day, and it was a little over 5 away, but I took break when I got there, so I count that more as 2 5+ miles rides, rather than one 10ish mile ride.
