Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

^same here! I loathe alcohol since I have to work with it every day (my samples are preserved in 70% EtOH), but being a chocoholic I can relate to and sympathize with anyone who has an addiction of some sorts

i was born in regensburg
was?! echt? oops, I mean: what? really?
I studied in R and was born about 45 km away. My ancestors were mainly border patrol, police, railway engineers and scientists.
Do you happen to still visit R on occasion? It'd be fun to meet IRL and I get there rather often :) Btw, we're atm trying to plan a meeting of us southerners in Nürnberg. Wanna join us? https://www.trekbbs.com/threads/meet-up-in-bavaria-germany.298885/#post-12969938

my grandma died close to regensburg in november. at an age worthy to die (or let's say worthy to live to) - 104. most of my family is there or close to ebern (my dad was a tanker, no more cav around) - my family is in oberbayern not oberpfalz

eta: my other grandma lived in fürth

I have a drinking problem. And most of me doesn’t care.

I have a friend who used to be a heavy smoker and back then he would keep repeating that he liked to smoke. Now that he no longer smokes, he says that back then his addiction was manipulating him into thinking that he liked it, but most of the time he just hated it.

There came a point where he was terrified that he wouldn't have enough cigarettes for his consumption (tobacco stores were not always open back then) so he would buy plenty to avoid that tragedy.

It must be much more uncomfortable when you are the most introverted person in a group...;)

When you’re the most introverted it’s fine if there’s at least one person extraverted enough to drive the conversation.

Since I was a kid I went from 0 to like 30 on the extraversion scale. When there’s a 90 in the group, 30 is more than enough to keep up your part of the conversation. But when nobody else is above 15 I’m like “So, what does everyone do?” and they give one word answers and that’s it. I try to track people into talking about the thing they are passionate about but don’t know how to really do it.

I don't know if I am extraverted but wherever I am, I usually am the one leading the conversation. In my own defense, that's what I am paid to do.:rommie:

^that job description would also fit a psychiatrist, a politician, a priest or a teacher. Frankly, a clown doesn't exactly strike me as particularly talkative. And many famous clowns were shy people, Charly Rivel for example or Grock.
I'd file the ability to steer a conversation into the right direction under social skills, not necessarily under extravert personality.

he said leading not steering it to a useful end, didn't he?

Have you noticed that a piece of dog poop stuck in the sole of your shoes is one of the hardest things to get rid of? Especially when you're wearing running shoes with ribbed soles, which are the ones in which I am more likely to get dog crap in, there's the mileage for one thing. Plus the smell is terrible! It just won't quit! Do you think dog poop if it had a mind of its own would think it was smart? I sure hope not.

i didn't know they ever did it together: me and bobby mcgee
