Random Thoughts...or...What's on Your Mind?

Please be impeached after the midterms, please be impeached after the midterms, please be impeached after the midterms

As much as I'd like to see him impeached or Article Twenty-Fived or something, I do also wonder how much better off the world would actually be with President Vance: someone who's still completely committed to the current agenda, but also more focused and mentally stable. At least we probably wouldn't have to worry about the unhinged social media posts, but as far as policy and direction, I don't see much changing.

Hasn't he been impeached twice already? Does being impeached actually do something or is it just a symbolic gesture?

So I'm sure an American will be able to correct me if this is wrong, but my understanding is that the House votes to impeach, and if that vote succeeds, then it goes to the Senate, who votes whether or not to convict. They didn't have the senate votes the last time it happened, so there was no punishment. But theoretically, he would be removed from office if the Senate convicted him, but that requires two-thirds of the Senate to vote to convict in order for that to happen.

Today was weird: I saw my uncle and cousin for the first time in a few years, it was good to see them again. Then I visited the graveyard with my grandfather because his sister died a month ago, we visited a few other graves of relatives.

Grandfather sometimes stopped at a grave and was amazed at how much time has passed since they passed away, not only with his relatives but with people he knew. He said that as long we talk and think about them, they're not really dead.

He came across a widow who married a friend of his, she told him that you think you know how it's like to live without your partner, you think you're prepared, but you're not.

I know neither of my grandparents but especially my grandfather isn't prepared for that loss of the other, and neither mom and I are prepared for the loss of them.

But it will happen, in a decade or so and then my grandparents will be the first the break the family tradition, because they will be the first to be cremated. Now I'm sad :(

I'm reminded of what my late mother said when her second husband Joe passed away: "You never get over it. You get used to it."

"Conspiracy Minesweeper":

The theory that all the big conspiracy theories are like the numbered squares in Minesweeper. None of them are true in themselves, but together they give a vague outline of what the truth actually is.

Home from Mom's. So tired. That drive gets longer and longer. Plus, hubby insists on taking the Tesla, so we always add about 30 minutes to the trip because we have to charge.

Fairly busy street that's only one lane each direction, plus a parking lane. SUV driver cannot parallel park for the life of them even though it's actually a pretty wide space. Vehicles have to get into the oncoming lane to pass, some even honk at the SUV.

Annoying, but it's not against the law to be bad and slow at parallel parking. You think the honking was excessive?

Surely that approval level is now Zero.

now wondering if our dreams when we sleep are all based on what we are like on alternate earths in the multiverse

also still wondering about time travel and of course the multiverse

Went to Red Robin for the first time in ages, and unless I'm remembering wrong, I feel like their burgers have shrunk.

You would think, but no. I do occasionally lurk in conservative spaces, just so I expose myself to other viewpoints, and am aware of what's going on at the other side of the political spectrum. (Although more often than not, it's just where my faith in humanity goes to die.) Although there do seem to be Trump supporters that disapproved of today's post, there were just as many who were actually cheering this on. I can't personally fathom it.

I'm scared to go to sleep, I'm scared to wake up and see the news on my phone with the damage done, I'm scared y'all

I'm so sorry. And I feel you, too. Fortunately a lot of his threats tend to get walked back. And in this particular case, it seemed to have been TACOed for now: they announced a two-week ceasefire, brokered by Pakistan. So no armageddon for tonight, anyway.

On a side-note... was greatly disappointed in my own PM's weak sauce response to this threatened genocide.

Stumbled upon two things today: Ursula Le Guinn and Backrooms.

I snagged her short story collection: The Unreal and the Real Vol 2. One of the philosophy YouTube channels I watch mentioned her, and I have never read her.

I guess, Backrooms is a whole thing. I saw the trailer and had no idea what I was watching, so I found the YouTube channel by the guy doing the A24 film, where he posted his found footage versions of the concept. Pretty cool stuff by a kid so young.
