When there's a terrorist attack, why do the news stories always say that [group] "claimed responsibility" for it? Why does nobody ever just say "It was us, we did it"?

People do. All the time. Trouble is that it is not always true.

News reportage tends to say "claimed responsibility" because that is exactly what it is, a claim. Once there's external verification (rather than just someone saying so) then the news reportage changes.

So I'm gonna be honest: I'm a bit of a germaphobe. And I've read that those ball pits are basically big cauldrons of germs. So no, I personally would not, even though it looks like I'm the only person in the thread who wouldn't.

I have never thought ball pits would be fun. I don't think I've ever played in one.

Bouncy castles are also totally not my thing.

Well, I never claimed they weren't fun. If I remember correctly, as a child who wasn't aware of the risks, I quite enjoyed them!

Propane was refilled this morning. Less than a month since the last one, and I keep the house at 18 during the day and 17 at night (heat is by fireplace so it struggles too much when you drop it lower at night, I had tried 16 but no go).

Decided to check my holding tank (property too small for septic so all waste water is in a holding tank). Previous owners pumped it 2-3 times a year but septic guy said they were bastards who probably shit in buckets to avoid filling it & disabled alarm. They also wintered in Florida so had 3-6 months without using it a year. It's only got 8 inches or so of space left so looking at pumping it once a month instead of once a quarter like I had budgeted. I have no idea what I could cut back on and still live a sanitary life. I even replaced the high flow toilet with an ultra low flow dual flush. But from the shape of things when I moved in the previous owners didn't care about being sanitary....

Le sigh. Expenses keep rising.

Sometimes when I'm working from home I tune into over-the-air TV shows for noise. There was an episode of Scorpion where the kid's code was stolen by an adult and they took it to court.... with the most incompetent and unprepared lawyer of all time. I know the show is full of unbelievable premises each week, but that one has got to take the cake.

There was an episode of Scorpion where the kid's code was stolen by an adult and they took it to court.... with the most incompetent and unprepared lawyer of all time. I know the show is full of unbelievable premises each week, but that one has got to take the cake.

Nah the worst was in the pilot episode when the weight of a person was held by an Ethernet cable under a plane.

It's been 3 weeks now since the 28th and mum's passing and I have settled down for the most part, there are days when I want to curl up and hide from the world or have a cry, but for the most part now I think I'm settled. I went through more or less the same when dad passed years before but this felt a bit harder when it hit.

Christmas just doesn't feel like that at the moment and part of me just wants the year over with already.

How can there be so many perfumes/colognes?

There's only so many smells in the world. What, do they have ones that smell like lemon Pledge or something like that?

Somewhere along the line they're gonna run out of ideas...

I had a girlfriend who was super into scents and whose sister worked selling cosmetics. She hated the smell of the beard stuff I used so one day she got like a dozen different colognes from her sister and spent an afternoon testing them on me until she found the one that worked best for me.

I still have & use that same bottle, although it was years ago. Use it when I'm seeing people but not being active.

I tested like half a dozen body sprays myself a few years back to find a couple I liked for when I'm more active. I sweat a lot (even before I got fat) and so use the body spray when I do something physical to help avoid B.O.

I regularly got compliments when I was dating over how I smelled, and my current girlfriend regularly talks about how I always smell so nice. When I went away for a month she took the cologne and would spray it on a blanket when she missed me.

They really are not. The biggest selling point is people and their different body chemistry reacting to particular scents and appealing to different people. With the push on hypoallergenic and such the market only increases.

So, yeah, they will not run out of ideas in our life time.
