Random celebrity encounters?

I was stood next to Jamie Theakston once on a Monorail in Gatwick Airport, I didn't realise it... Also in the McDonalds in Gatwicks North Terminal, I was sitting across from John Virgo

If nobody knows who these two "Celebrities" are, I won't blame you, they've shuffled into obscurity, but for the record, Jamie Theakston is an occasional British TV Presenter, who got his start on an immensley popular Saturday Kids show called Live and Kicking...His reputation was later scarred when the tabloids acquired pictures of him visiting a Brothel (whose specialities included Mature Women, nonetheless)

As for John Virgo, he was a Professional Snooker Player, whose popularity grew as he Co-Presented another popular Saturday show called "Big Break", he now occasionly joins the commentators during Snooker Matches (I personally only turn the Snooker on for the Theme Tune, in the Words of Bill Bailey "Nobody watches the Bloody Snooker!")

When I was working at Brentanos bookstore, I met Bil Keane (The Family Circus), I recognized his signature first. I also spoke on the phone, gave directions and get a book for Joe Menosky(writer for Star Trek) He totally knew that I recognized his name. When he came into the store we talked for a bit about the book got. I still remember it, Bartmieus Stroud. It was pretty cool to meet him. I've also seen Steve Nash, JD Hayworth, and Doc Sevrinson.

This is an awesome; thread I love it!

I've been sat next to Michael Craze (1960s Dr Who companion) and Robert Foxworth (Falcon Crest, Ds9, B5) on flights.

Daniel Craig popped into our local supermarket at least twice last year, that I noticed.

One time I was in an L.A. restaurant called the Rose Cafe and Dylan McDermott walked in. I didn't care, but my girlfriend did even though she actually thought it was Daniel Day-Lewis:lol:.

My girlfriend has a million celeb encounter stories, but the most random one was probably when she was in a club with Mick Jagger. She called a friend of hers to come over and they devised this elaborate plan to get in Mick's way as he was leaving in hopes that he would brush past them, but his security outfoxed them and they didn't get anywhere near him.:wah:

I love your avatar.

Not an encounter of mine, but it's a story about my Dad.

Many years ago, somewhere in the DC area, Dad and an old friend were hanging out at some kind of event. Pete Rose and Johnny Bench was there. Bench was being snotty and went after the young women. But Pete Rose asked them to have a beer together.

Okay, a couple more:

At a book show I was at a few years ago in Los Angeles, the show was teeming with celebrities. At one point, Mrs. Alpinemaps and I walked past Alec Baldwin eating lunch. Mrs. Alpinemaps got all excited. It was pretty funny. "OMG OMG! It's Alec Baldwin". I asked her to just keep walking. It was in the middle of the big lunch area at the Los Angeles Convention Center, and, as I said, there were tons of stars around, so no biggie.

At the Star Wars Celebration in Los Angeles in 2007, I ran into Kristen Bell on the show floor. Not really a 'random' encounter, as she was there promoting fan boys. But, I did get the chance to say hi.

Baseball related story: I was at LAX on a Sunday evening, in the commuter terminal, transferring flights from a New York-LA flight to a LA-Santa Barbara flight. The flight to Oakland was at the next gate over. It was late - 10:30 at night, and the Dodgers had hosted the Cubs at Dodger Stadium in a Sunday Night Baseball game earlier in the evening.

While I was standing there, Hall of Fame second baseball and ESPN Broadcaster Joe Morgan walked into the gate area (in his suit). I immediately recognized him. No one else did. He was sitting down, and had an empty seat next to him. I quietly walked up, introduced myself, and chatted with him for a minute. As I was finishing my chat, the guy sitting next to him said to Joe, "are you someone famous?", and Joe responded "nope, I'm nobody".

When I was a senior in high school in the late 70s, I had an afterschool job in a commodity brokerage office in Manhattan. Going to work one day, I passed Howard Cosell (of Monday Night Football fame) coming out of my building. He was having a conversation with someone, and so I didn't interrupt them.

A funny friend story is that my friend once had Taco Bell with Taylor Hawkins (drummer from Foo Fighters) randomly. Nice guy.

I totally had a random celebrity encounter today. I was working at my bookstore shelving in the kids section upstairs, when a woman asks me where the fashion section is. I tell her its downstairs and offer to show her and her friend exactly where it is. I follow the gentleman down the escalator and the woman brings up the rear. As we are going down the man turns his head and I realize that the man is Carson Kressley from Queer Eye for the Straight Guy. Kinda cool. It made my day a little more interesting.
