Rambo 5 - Last Stand

Better NIGHTHAWKS II, ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER or COPLAND AGAIN then another godawful EXPENDABLES or SIXTH BLOOD. Stallone can act, but everytime he does his base audience refuses to go.

Well, clearly the official title would need to be something like Rambo 2: Last Blood Part 1 Rambo V First Blood Part 5... Vengeance

...Reloaded!

On the basis that I liked 4 I'd be ok with another one, but I do think 4 made for a nice booked.

Still amazing to consider the 3 films that followed on from the first were so different in style (not to mention body count) from First Blood. (where he kills one guy!)

And that kill is essentially an accident

That was a good interview. Stallone is a really down to earth guy and always good to hear from.

ha ha, yeah, bit of a lucky throw!

Rambo has become a joke after the first movie (which in itself was a pretty good action movie with a bit of a message) so what's one more?

I'll only partially agree with this. When Part 2 came out, we were still reeling from the aftermath of Viet Nam. There were still thousands of POW's unaccounted for and he wanted to do a justice/catharsis story and I personally think it worked, particularly while still in the midst of the Cold War. However, this is where I stop with the Rambo series being good. R3 involving itself with the mustache-twirling eeeevil Russkies seemed off at so many different levels. What made matters worse was that, the week the movie was scheduled for release, the Soviets gave the order to withdraw from Afghanistan. Totally killed the relevance of the plot and the movie flopped. True, nobody really saw THAT one coming, but still, Charlie Wilson not withstanding, the bottom line is that was not our war and nobody cared. R4 sort of went down a similar road getting into modern southeast Asian (Burmese?) politics that, for right or for wrong, most people (American audience, anyway) just don't care about. The Mexican thing? Well, as always, I'll reserve judgment when I see it - and I will see it 'cause I have a soft spot in my heart for ol' Sly. I grew up on his movies as a kid and I'm glad to see him working again, although he was in serious physical pain when he was making Expendables and I hope he doesn't do any real debilitating permanent damage. However R5 turns out, I'm just glad that this one won't be dealing with white supremacists in deepest darkest Montana or some-such bullshit (one of the original pitched ideas for R4, IIRC). That would have been so 90's. I think he should stick with Expendables and let John Rambo rest. Earned it, he has...
