Back on-topic it would be refreshing to see a mass-market Hollywood film with a predominantly Asian cast from whatever ethnic background, but I won't hold my breath. Really better to just ignore Hollywood altogether as most cinema is trash anyway.

47 Ronin, set to be released in November, has Keanu Reeves in the lead and most of the principal cast are Japanese.

The thing is, everytime a black/asian/"non-white" actor gets cast in a "white" role, the argument is always "talent first". But somehow this doesn't apply to cases in which a white actor gets a non-white role. Why the double standard?

Oh no, the need for big box office names is a very real phenomenon. Keanu is BIG BIG BIG in Asia and his presence will lock in that market regardless of whether the rest of the cast is white, or Smurfs, or whatever.

The suits won't care if he's the right age anymore than they'd care if he's the right race.

Damn that American writer for creating Tarzan. I'd rather more focus was put on a John Carter movie or even Pelucidar, if someone wants to bring a Burroughs character/setting to life.

I just realized something. This is an incredibly boring issue. Who cares if Sulu was supposed to be one-eighth Philipino or whatever???

And Filipinos are already pretty much a mix of everything to begin with.
