Rest in peace? No. Rest where the wild things are.

And once you're settled in, maybe take a trip to were the sidewalk ends, and see how Uncle Shelby is doing.

:( My favorite Sendak stuff was Really Rosie/Pierre/Chicken Soup with Rice. I loved the cartoon with Carole King's music.

May you never be alone again, Maurice, wherever you are.

R.I.P. What a loss.

Loved the last lines of the NY Times obit:

“Dear Mr. Sun Deck ...” he could drone with affected boredom, imitating the semiliterate forced-march school letter-writing projects of which he was the frequent, if dubious, beneficiary.

But he cherished the letters that individual children sent him unbidden, which burst with the sparks that his work had ignited.

“Dear Mr. Sendak,” read one, from an 8-year-old boy. “How much does it cost to get to where the wild things are? If it is not expensive, my sister and I would like to spend the summer there.”

Saw this story related earlier:

“Once a little boy sent me a charming card with a little drawing on it. I loved it. I answer all my children’s letters — sometimes very hastily — but this one I lingered over. I sent him a card and I drew a picture of a Wild Thing on it. I wrote, “Dear Jim: I loved your card.” Then I got a letter back from his mother and she said, “Jim loved your card so much he ate it.” That to me was one of the highest compliments I’ve ever received. He didn’t care that it was an original Maurice Sendak drawing or anything. He saw it, he loved it, he ate it.”

From Tumblr:

“But the wild things cried, “Oh please don’t go - we’ll eat you up - we love you so!”
And Max said, “No!”
The wild things roared their terrible roars and gnashed their terrible teeth and rolled their terrible eyes and showed their terrible claws but Max stepped into his private boat and waved goodbye.”

Adiós Maurice Sendak :(

I got the biggest kick out of that story. I wondered if he sent another back to the kid so he could have his letter and eat it, too.
