I believe that he was also narrator/announcer for the show. Thank you, and Rest In Peace, Mr. Tufeld.

^Yes, Tufeld was an announcer for a lot of shows over several decades. In addition to Lost in Space, he also narrated Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea and The Time Tunnel, and beyond Irwin Allen he was an announcer on shows ranging from Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color in 1955 to The Fantastic Four in 1978 to Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends in 1981 to Histeria! in 1998-9.

^ Thanks for that, Christopher! Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea was my favorite show as a kid (well, a three-way tie with Fireball XL5 and The Patty Duke Show)(I had a crush on Patty.... Kathy was a bit too aloof for me when I was such a little boy). I should have made that voice connection to LIS!
